i live in Trinidad and a lot of the things i buy online i buy trough Bongous which is a shipping forwarder and also buys thing on your behalf then ships it to you . so i made an order for some parts , tuna mech trigger ,handle frame and line guide all from neptonic . Bongous emailed me today and said they can't make the order because speargun parts are considered weapon accessories . does this problem roll over to customs problems or shipping problems . any of you guys had this happen before .

yeah its a machine shop supplier they have all kinds of steel including stainless , besides the riffe shaft is $100 US and the local machine steel is $1.50 per foot at 5/16 . even if it bends it is cheap to replace . plus i am using a Neptonic Tuna Mech not Riffe .

your probably right , i will hit a wall with the gear that i bought . although just as a side note camo is illegal in Trinidad and Tobago , specifically military style like the kind the US Army used in the 90s and present but the customs officer is the one to decide if your particular pattern is illegal . so if coming to Trinidad and Tobago i would go with something like a black wet suit . caution is needed even with the camo style cargo shorts you guys wear. it can be confiscated .

This is connected to my pitch pine thread . Shafts in Trinidad cost around $100 US a piece plus i would be fishing in shallow rocky areas , i therefore am afraid to use $100 dollar shafts so i will be making my own . I know this is a odd question but does anyone have the dimensions of the notch used on an 5/16 American style shaft to use with a Neptonic Tuna Mech . I can't source any locally to measure . I need the design and dimensions in order to cut the notch in the 5/16 spring steel round bar that i am buying . By the way buying spring steel from a machine shop supplier is 10 times cheaper . I don't want to be in the water and afraid to shoot a fish because i am worried about bending a shaft . thanks .

the wood is already kiln dried , i don't want to have to laminate because this is my first gun , i don't actually have a speargun and i don't want to have to wait 2 months before i can get in the water . is the laminating just preferred or will the gun not function without laminating due to warping

i actually love purple heart , growing up in Trinidad , purple heart is known for being one of the hardest and most beautiful woods around . i just bought a 10ft x 2x4 piece of solid purple heart that i am going to use for my first real gun after i am done with the pitch pine tester . i will post a pic of it on that thread . but really nice work on yours , great vid .

I uploaded the pic of my gear to show guest that you don't have to spend $1000 US to get started in spearfishing. you can buy relatively cheap gear when now starting , besides you're not going to dive 100 feet [safely] your first time out . therefore high end items like carbon fins may not be necessary at this stage . The mask , snorkel and fins all came up to $800 TT dollars = $123 US , plus i bought these things in a full on dive shop , they are cheaper online .

i like the primeval side of spearfishing , starting out with no fish [ no bait ] one breath and ending up with fish hopefully . plus i like the idea of catching fish with a 10 year old piece of 2x4 pine that was laying in the garage covered in old cement .
