...No not the ones during birth.

I know this answer may vary based on individual physiology and experience.

I was curious as to how many contractions (diaphragm) movements you guys practicing aspetto (waiting on the bottom) go through before you think it's time to surface. Also, what's going through your mind during these contractions? One of my friends tends to count his contractions as a way to "fight" it.

I tend to go through at least 2-3 depending on the depth before I start to head up for the surface.

    Thanks and dive safe!

    Hi guys,

I was wondering how you deep divers hold your guns specifically
during your initial duck dive. When just freediving, I usually need a
breast stroke to completely get my fins under the water upon descent.
Any tips you guys can offer? Also, I'm using the abellan denton, so if any of you
have any tips on how you hold that gun when descending, it would be a great help.

    Thanks!

I am actually likely going to be using a 7.5mm on my version of this gun. Why do you favor the short overhang?

I don't favor the short overhang, it's just I'm trying to keep almost the same mass as the stock 8mm shaft. But the overhang on that (8mm salvimar) is too short for aiming instinctively. The RA 150cmx7.5mm shaft is around the same as the salvimar 130cmx8mm shaft.

Nice build though nonetheless! Can't wait to see it done.

Would you be inclined to try a 7.5mm shaft with like 10cm of overhang? I know it's shorter overhang than a normal setup (+40cm) but I noticed a difference in the momentum, speed, and range of the shaft in my abellan gun when using a 7.5mm RA shaft with ~10cm of overhang with very short 16mm bands (375-400% stretch).

So had a last second dive out on the westside of o'ahu today. Needed to get a dive in before the winds picked up this weekend 15-30mph. Didn't take into account it was a full moon, which means ripping current.

Anyways, jumped in with my dive buddy chase at almost 4pm, late start. We were both eager to shoot some fish since I've been dry for about 2 weeks. We headed out to the ledge and tried unsuccessfully to bring in the mu's (bigeye emperor) those guys will test your limits. Started to head in after not seeing anything out at the ledge. We were about to call it a dive when we found a fish pile in 20' if water by the surge zone.

I dropped down and took aim on a small red uhu (parrotfish), told myself wait it out and see what else comes in. Saw a pananu (star eyed parrotfish, best tasting of the parrotfish) come in. I was using my pathos laser open pro carbon and modified
it to use 2 9/16" bands and a 6.75mm shaft so I can target smaller game without blasting my shaft in reef like my abellan. The pathos was dead accurate and the new hammerhead sharkfin shaft seemed like a good balance with the thinner bands. Kick was minimal, shaft went where I pointed on instinct.

Same spot about 5 minutes later, I took a drop just to see what comes in, then a kumu (white saddle goatfish, endemic to hawaii) come right in front of my shaft, took an easy shot and spined it, this is going to be steamed Chinese style with hot peanut oil this weekend .

Final drop of the day, was hiding behind a coral head, nothing came in so I peered above and saw this blue whiptail uhu come in. A little out of range, so I had to make a lunging shot to secure it. Going to probably stuff this the Hawaii way with lup cheong, mayo, Portuguese sausage, and onions for a party tomorrow.

    Dive safe guys!

For the reef fish there Hau, aspetto is the way to go. But you gotta hide in like a crack/under a ledge, throw up sand, grunt, put your head down for a couple seconds then slowly look up and aim. The fish will get curious from the sand (imitates feeding fish), the grunting will imitate the menpachi sounds, the head down will keep you calmer and the glare from your mask down. Also the bubbles you make on your way down will entice some reef fish. I don't have too much experience bluewater over on Guam or over here in Hawaii. Sorry I can't help you on that one. All the Asian girls you see are probably Japanese tourists. Lol.My wife and I are Chamorro, Chamorro girls can be crazy at times, be warned. Haha.
