Just an update, so my Argos socks I was using started to come apart and tear at the seams. I got the speardiver predator socks today and let me say these are by far more comfortable then the Argos, it's hard to explain that it's stretchy but yeah conforms to my feet very nicely. Looking to put them through the ringer with my shore dives in the next week or two. I'll update further!

LB, can you elaborate more on the spoon technique concerning like "quartering away" and throwing the
spoon to the other side? Thanks! Also, do you Florida spearos grunt on the bottom to call em back in? It's pretty popular to do over here in HI to bring in the more predatory fish.

welcome bro.
put that go pro to good use! -
I would like to hear from hau about this! Lol. He has probably one of the baddest, most respect-inducing
mustaches I've ever seen, akin to Tom Selleck. -
Looking to place on order of the small ID rubber when it comes in,
thanks Dan and Jim for the input. 'preciate it! -
Hey guys,
so im thinking about changing the bands on my gun. Currently shooting a 57 inch 9/32 shaft
with 2 black 5/8" bands. IMO opinion its shooting kind of slow. I was interested in Dan's
small ID, powerbands. Would there be any problems with combining a small ID 5/8" band (to front tab) with a small ID 3/4" (to the back tab)band? Jon (behslayer) from Ulusub said he's running this combo and it works well for him. I understand recoil might be a problem but just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this combo. Thanks!

thanks for the info. i bow to your beard. Unfortunately, i can't grow a beard in the Air Force, gotta keep the 'stache "high and tight"
-
so...
I don't want to risk shaving the manliest part of a man above his waist ('stache) to make my mask not leak where its supposed to seal on the lip.
Any tips or tricks?
Should i just trim off some hair where the mask seals :sad2: or I've heard of using petrol jelly, but don't wanna get teased for having a plop of clear, milky substance near my lips! lol
Thanks!

Damn, I never thought of that! Lol.
Thanks for the advice Marco! -
Thanks Dan. I appreciate the info. If I do cut it, I'll post some pics and some descriptions to add
to this discussion. -
Was thinking about shortening my RA 110 down to a 90 to use on the shallow reefs
I don't know too much about modifying or cutting an aluminum barrel
and plugging it. Should I try it out or just buy a new, shorter barrel?Any help, tips, or additional concerns I didn't bring up
is appreciated.Thanks!

I still don't know how to judge distance of the shot to be completely honest. When I went from a pole spear to a gun, I thought the gun was going to be some sort of magical weapon and slay fish from far away and I was wondering why I was missing so much. Now when I shoot my gun, i take it for what it is, a fish harvesting tool, not an underwater sniper rifle. I usually try not to shoot double the length of my gun, from my perception of it underwater and just wait and wait til the fish come in. It's all kind of instinctual and primal for me now, but I'm sure experience helps a lot too with judging distance.

The argos booties I have hold up pretty well to rocking on the lava rocks over here in hawaii as well as on the gravely bottoms. I think they make different thicknesses. The cut on them IMO is pretty good. They're a little pricey ~$35. It keeps my feet pretty warm and i believe they make a high cut one.

Howsit jarrett? welcome to this forum, i just joined couple weeks ago and am hooked on reading up on all the threads. I'm on the HSF facebook page like you and can't wait for the fish and dive expo next sunday! are you gonna catch a flight from maui over here to see it?

They just announced new "high stretch wetsuits" and carbon fiber fins with aerospace grade carbon also. I shouldn't have bought my wetsuit from them (Velcro beaver tail is shitty) and instead ordered the speardiver ones. Ugh! A learning experience I suppose. Next one will be the red speardiver one. Gotta save my coins!

Oh and forgot one more trick we use, throwing bent spoons from the surface and watching for the fish who are curious about the fluttering spoon. It usually creates a fish pile

Hey Guys,
Was just curious what everyone's hunting techniques are related to your hunting grounds,
especially for the Florida spearfishermen. In Hawaii our reef hunting usually consists of generally 3 methods:
1.) dropping down to the bottom and waiting and "calling" the fish in. (Throwing up sand, scratching coral,
and grunting).2.) dive bombing (throwing palu,"chum", at the surface then dropping vertically moving very slowly and shooting downwards)
3.) stalking (hiding behind corals and crevices then crawling on the bottom towards a fish that is feeding, usually parrotfish)
Not trying to garner any hidden secrets from you guys but was just curious. Also how does increased and decreased
visibility adjust your hunting techniques? Thanks guys. Dive safe!

haha. Thats my predicament! to be honest i don't know what I want! I just wanted to try out a custom wood gun, besides the old-school Palauan gun i tried while in Palau. I think I might just go with a wood gun for the reef, i dont think i'll ever get the chance to go BW. thanks LB.

Thanks for the input LB. I think I might go with a 55 inch then. I just picked up a some carbonio gft aeros from him and boy are they sexy! Haha. I'll post a review in another thread once I get the chance to sample them in the water. Again, thanks for the input.
