When you surface with a snorkel in your mouth and give a big blast of air to clear you immediately drop the pressure in your blood vessels in the brain which keeps the O2 there and this in turn can cause a blackout very rapidly. By having a snorkel in your mouth you have an open air way for water to flood in in an emergency.

    snorkel always out

From a "you black out and have a flow of water straight from the snorkel to your mouth you drown immediately" were as if not your mouth automatically closes and hopefully your buddy is there to revive you quickly.

"with snorkel can immediately and uninterruptedly assume horizontal recuperating position
[] ALL WHILE KEEPING HIS VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE BOTTOM.[/U]"

being horizontal is not a "recuperating" position!!! in my book, doing necessary recovery breathing after a dive with head slightly out of the water and once in the clear then moving back to a horizontal position, or you can swim up from a 75ft dive with gun in hand and immediately go to horizontal position with snorkel in mouth huffing and puffing each time just asking for a blackout to occur because you have not done any real recovery breathing, recovery breathing is seriously important and is not done through a snorkel unless it is small 15ft dives for a few seconds. Your an instructor? for what may I ask without any disrespect.

Hau, I cant say exactly, but, roughly $755 to $800, $695 for the class and 3 boat trips around $25 for boat. Personally I found the class well worth it especially the physiology of freediving and what happens to the body, Kirk is a fantstic speaker and explains alot to you and the rescue safety saving drills are excellent to know for diving with others. The class is a fun class and I believe you will take away from it what is important to you as a spearo, some may disagree, but, truth is only you can say what is important for you.

On Pipins pnuematic line what are those things on the gun half way up the barrel ? are those handles to help load the shaft better? was curious about those and all I can think is that they are a handle for leverage in loading the shafts, am I correct on this?

"I apologize Black1 if I interpreted your comments the wrong way"

No need ever to apologize my friend, it takes much more than a few opinions, it was not taken as anything but your opinion and that I respect. Pippin is just like anyone else, has his good traits and his flaws...just like me, I simply don't like the way he is promoting certain things that's all. Take care.

I don't try and take long shots, I prefer to get closer, but, I have on occasion and usually with bad results, a video about long shots is stupid in my opinion and does or say's nothing about the spearo or equipment.

Ben I am in no way a hater or bashing Pippin I just call it like it is, it is just that there are lot's of great freedivers and spearo's around the world, what Pippin has accomplished is great to an extent, but, he is not some sort of superman of freediving or spearing which he has come off as at times and his Persistent line is nothing more than a copy of other great spearing lines long before him, some of his stuff is nice and some is quick let's make a buck spearing gear like his land hunting fall leaf wetsuits and folding dive knives...these are actually dangerous to use and can cost you serious O2 time if needed to use, but, hey he is Pippin and he doesn't care about that so long as he has gotten his piece of the spearing world pie. Pippin has now come to several forums and starts a discussion like proper breath up and long shot guns and then never comes back to answer any of it, it is a marketing ploy and I don't respect that...and like O2 has said he has been involved with some dangerous methods of freediving.

You guys in Cali have White's and we here in Florida have Bull's, both can be a threat for sure, but, we have to live with them if we wish to dive. I had a small 51/2ft bull approach me yesterday and stuck out my gun and he came close to me, but just turned and left. So far so good but they can be a pest sometimes. Sharks in murky waters are a scary thought though for sure O2.

    Ok selling my 2 guns.

1st is an Aimrite "Super Venom" 120 w/Rob Allen composite reel for $400 and in perfect condition.

2nd is a Deathstick enclosed track 55inch rear handle plus and in perfect condition with attached Rob Allen composite brand new...$500

Both guns have the attachment for the Rob Allen composite reels and can be put on or taken off in seconds.

Will throw in new shafts as well for guns.

It's called a white out correct O2? when you black out due to overpacking because it puts a strain on the left heart ventricle I believe.

We started the day with a 5lb dog tooth snapper followed by a 4lb mutton so we knew the area had good snappers and we just needed to find the bigger ones. The water vis was around 2ft and opened up more after 30ft down and this was due to the large swells this time of year along with lot's of debris and plankton like substance in the water. Towards the end of the day my dive partner swam to were I was hunting out on the point and said he found a promising cave in just 25ft of water and that it was large inside with several decent size snappers in it. My friend and I swam over to the cave and he pointed out one of the entrances to me and just so happened he said you go first so I did my breath up and swam down to check it out. I reached the entrance to the cave which was around 5ft in diameter and I held on to the rock in the entrance and pointed my gun into the dark cave when a nice size yellow tail snapper swam by, I waited to see what else I could make out after my eyes started to adjust when all of a sudden this dog tooth/cubera pointed his head out just slightly to see what was outside his hole and then turned to head back in when I shot him in his side. The snapper shot back in to the cave and started to smoke my line off my reel and it was then I realized how deep the cave went, after a tense 25 minute game of tug o war with my being as gentle as possible so he didn't cut my on the rocks he surprisingly floated out of the cave and I swam down and grabbed him by the gills and then made my kill shot with my knife and swam him back to the boat, the fillets were huge and he was very tasty with vanilla butter and garlic, hope you enjoyed my story.

This is the area and what it looks like that we dive, very rocky pinnacles with deep water swells breaking over it makes for an interesting dive area with lot's of fish, this is a 45 minute boat ride across the bay to a very secluded spot. There are areas that are the same closer, but, we chose to make the ride for part of the adventure this time.

Thanks Griswold for the information, I am deeply saddened by the loss of your good friend and to all of us in the spearfishing world, my condolence's go out to Bill's family.
