21-22' CC. Found a great deal on a 22' Boston Whaler Outrage. Found a better deal on a 22' Hydra Sport, but I don't know much about them. Will have to do some investigating on them. Waiting for a friend that knows a great deal about boats to get back in from his offshore hitch to ask some questions.

Well the weather is finally starting to get nice! Last report I heard the water was 67. I am shopping for a boat. Hopefully, I will have one for the snapper opener. No way I am going another year down here without one!

WOW John, is that your place? Very nice living out in the country like that. :thumbsup2:
    Nice truck too :toast:
Sorry it is cold an you're not spearin :(

Yes. The picture was taken from my kitchen door. If you look behind the truck you can see a target set-up. It's nice to be able to sight my rifles in from my kitchen:D Just set-up on the table and I'm good to go. A few deer out in the woods behind the house...

One of the best explanations for being a gear whore I have yet to see...coming from a fellow gear whore of course.:laughing3:

I've pretty much overcome my addiction to guns and have narrowed my arsenal down to 7; only 3 of which get used on a regular basis.

Like G.R. I have now have a wetsuit problem... I think I have more wetsuits than guns. By the way great pics of the new Spetton. I love mine! Now if I could just get in the water on a regular basis to use it...:(

Lunker I agree for the most part. However, I have had the same thing happen with spectra. It just doesn't happen as often.

I think also has to do with the angle of the shot. I seem to get more tangles when shooting at an upward angle.

Some of the other factors I have noticed are long shooting lines and shooting big fish up close. As the shaft stops or slows upon hitting the fish, the unused shooting line billows and rolls forward into the bands. I have watched this happen to me several times.

I am now a big fan of single wrap!

Definitely going to make ceviche with it! I am also planning to try out a few different methods. I kept the collars, ribs, and lower tail section to put in the smoker. I will try deep fry as well.

I forgot to mention that I also took a spade fish on this trip, just to give a try.

Thanks for the new section Dan!

Unfortunately, I don't have any "glory" pics of fish from MS. My current avatar is the best picture I have from our local waters. I have some friends with some great pictures, but I would of course, have to get their permission.

As for going for a joyride, I have leaned the hard way, that stoning a big fish while freediving on the rigs around here is definitely in one's favor. The water is friggen deep around here, and if you don't get a good handle on the fish, like RIGHT NOW he's going deep only to tear off, or the line is going to have to be cut.

Floatlines are asking for trouble in the rigs. Reel guns are the way to go and one had better know WTF is going on or one of three things is going to happen: the fish will be lost, the gun will be lost or the diver will be lost!

Not really a LA report. but it's the closest thing to an upper gulf coast section that is here.

Went out of MS this past weekend. I haven't been out in a couple of months. The freezer has long been empty of seafood delights and I was in no mood to be too particular about what I pulled the trigger on.

With the recent closures of AJ, ARS, etc., the hit list is quickly narrowing. I went out with the intentions of getting mangroves and sheephead to fill the freezer, but they were not cooperating.

After several failed attempts at various locations, with only 1 small mangrove and 1 decent sheephead (and of course seeing hundreds of decent red snapper), I was dropped on a rig with some cleaner water and hopes of finding some better fish.

I ran into one of the bigger cudas I have seen since I moved to the Gulf Coast. I watched as he swam off, with no intentions of pulling the trigger. As I turned to get a glimpse of my surrounding before surfacing, I was caught off guard by another inquisitive cuda that managed to sneak up on me from behind. I hate these fish for that very reason! They sneak up from behind and scare the crap out of me when I turn only to find them 2-3' from my face!

As I flinched, he made his way out, but at a leisurely pace. I thought to myself, what the hell?; and pulled off a perfectly placed shot and stopped him dead. Not a big fish by the standards around here, but my biggest, at 35lbs.

I have been told by many that they are not fit for consumption, but at this point, I was desparate. I broiled a couple of pieces tonight. I was pleasantly surprised! It was not the best fish I have ever eaten, by a stretch, but it was certainly not horrible, at least to the degree that people have made it out to be. Actually, it was rather bland. Not much taste at all, except for the seasonings that I put on it. The texture was nice. Very firm and tight grained. I like fish this way. I don't like mushy.

I took all the appropriate measures to maintain the best quality of the fish, gilled, gutted, scaled, removing the kidney and icing immediatley upon getting the fish aboard the boat; and removing all of the red meat when processing, once ashore. One might be surprised at how much this improves the quality of a lot of the so-called "inedibles".

I will definately take them in the future, when times are lean, as now.

has there been a huge decrease in fish populations? or are they just being tools?

They're just being tools. The size and frequency of catch in the recreational sector has increased dramatically since the implementation of commecial gillnet banning, some years ago in inshore waters. The fish have made a dramatic rebound. Of course the "science" behind the closures has been based on statistical survey analysis.:rolleyes1:

The only mandated reports of catches are those that are commercial or commercial sportfishing. So the numbers are, of course, going to decline; based on the fact that the commercial take has been limited to areas that have that have less productive areas or fishing methods.

The closures are simply going to have a snowball effect. With the closures of productive fishing areas, the only areas that will have allowable take are going to be areas that won't hold fish. The science behind "statistical survey catch" is going to show that no fish are now being caught. So, there MUST be a decline in fish populations. More closures WILL be necessary.:nono:

Do squirrels have enough yield to bother with? I've thought about it before.

The yield may be low, but I think they taste is much better than say, a chicken:D

I shot on one So Cal that was being a nusicance. I felt bad for killing it, so reluctantly decided to eat it. I was quite surprised at how good they were. I would eat them over chicken, anyday!

One squirrel is enough for a meal for 1 person, with sides of course.

    Aaron,

this is my BSF from Germany. Incredible accuracy and I kill rabbits with it all the time. I found this gun in a military surplus store and the guys had no idea what it was. I got for $150. It is the most powerful air gun I have ever shot. I have no idea what the FPS is on it. The gun is not even made anymore.

You are certainly correct about the Europeans knowing their shit about airguns!

I haven't been able to get out in the water for quite some time, due to weather or simply the lack of a ride out.

Hunting season is finally open in South Mississippi!!! Unfortunately, it is only bow season for deer, which is not really an issue, but it restricts the weapons one can hunt with for other game, such as rabbit, squirrel, etc. to a .22 rimfire rifle or shotgun with #6 or less, shot.

I bought a Ruger 10/22 a few months back and was not really quite happy with the stock barrel. It came with a Tapco AR style stock, which I am very fond of, but the standard barrel just sucks!

The Post Office showed up with my package last night, and after bagging a couple of squirrels this morning with my previous set-up, I made the switch to my new Bell&Carlson Anschutz thumbhole stock and Magnum Research Carbon Barrel:thumbsup2:

I just got done resighting the gun in , and all I can say is WOW!!!! The groups tightened up by almost 200%:@

I am totally stoked! 10 shot groups @ >1" at 30yds. I am sure I could tighten them some more, but I just wanted to get the scope dialed in.

The gun weighs in at 3-1/2 lbs! And, it looks sick!!!:D

    Tin Man---SWEET modification:)
How hard would it be to incorporate a trigger mech like that into an enclosed track euro pipe gun?:thumbsup2:

Man, you just never give up do you?!!!:thumbsup2: I hope you get your gun soon!

Jeff, how much did this affect the trigger pull? It seems it would have made it a tad lighter?
