my riffe competitor 4x is about 6 -7 years old. had been intensivly used and i never really took much care of it. dont wash it with fresh water every day, never sand and oil it too much. maybe once every 1-2 month.
two years ago it got lost and been 3 weeks loaded under water, before a friend found it.
recently i discovered that i shooting plenty fish too low. i figured thats because my spears always bend up.
but now i watched down the gun and see that the gun itself bend. i sticked a needle at the top and the end of the gun right in the line of the lamination and tight a nylon between. and my eye didnt fooled me. watching the straight line seeing that it getting a distance of about 3.5mm at the middle of the gun from the line of the lamination. could this cause the lower shooting ? anyway to straighten this out ?
anyone experience this before ? thanks for input.... all the best

came from diving the other day, and went to buy food. the most annoying question for fisherman:
is the fish fresh ? , dont need to be asked in this BBQ place. -
hey dan,
i dont wear a wetsuit. thats just a long lycra-joggingpants. lying on the bottom, srowling over rocks and
firecoral with just a thin layer of lycra over some sensitive areas of the body, can cause some trouble.
so its mainly for protection. and it just became a habit.
abouit the vid, thats what we started to do a while now. on days with good vis and once we have made a good catch already, we filming each other at least on two dives.
since i diving mostly alone, these days good opportunitys to get some interesting vids, other then me carrying gun in one and cam in the other hand. -
hi there,
had some time again, so i just edited our material that we filmed on our latest dive excursion in febr.
dont know, hope the quality of the vid shows ok. the water was nice that day, a bit cold, current ok,
1-2 knots ( for where we went thats good), sorry i missed to go down in time to film the groupershot.
all the best.... -
hi metelin,
when i did post these pics i didnt mention that all the catch was done with comercial purpose.
i thought it was obvious, and most members would already know that.
that day, my boatman had a order from a long year customer for 10 pound of rocklobster for his wifes birthday. so i really pushed it a bit in order to achieve that goal. and catching such an amount in daytime is not so easy. i ended up with 15 pound in 3 hours. in the same place at night you would probably catch 2-3 times more. if you can load so fast :laughing3:
critics are always welcome, as long as they come in an constructive way.
all the best -
yeah, they are very good eating. i go for them at night sometimes. those where caught at day. not much people hunt them here, mostly because they dont even know they are there.

lunker,
to prevent you from throwing up while grunting, you could try to eat some beans and peas two hours before the dive, farting does do the trick as well. :laughing3: -
hey fishmaster,
no its not a vermillionsnapper. you get a picture of one ? not sure if i ever saw one. do they get big ? -

josh, from australias west coast showed up, and we went out for some diving. once more it turned out that beside beeing able to dive good depth and having a good bottomtime, wich he have, to me its always more important that a diver have a good hunting style and instinct and could handle himself in all conditions. they teach him well in western australia.
great diving josh, respect.here some pics of some catches....

hi,
i would like to recommend this video for all you to watch.for some reason this vid dont get much attention on youtube, but i find it worth watching. david is a young diver(19) from the azores who dive and film very well. a good example how useful it can be to been able to equalizing without use of hands. as you will see sometimes he have cam in one, and gun in the other hand. all the best -
i just started doing it . never thought about it. but it is very useful when diving for rocklobster, one hand lobstergun, one hand the light. also find it makes the much better videos of shooting fish with cam in one hand and gun in the other, then mounting the cam on the gun.

dan,
i using a canon powershot 650 is, and the canon housing for it.wouldntbuy it again, because the qaulity of the filming is the same with most canon cams, i would buy a cheaper, smaller and lighter cam.lunker, never heard of anyone having problems with barracudas and cigua down here. popular food fish, people buy them in all sizes, up to 50-60 pounds.

dan, the head will be split and then chop up in pieces. never chop the eye, people love to cook it .
thats to make soup. i kept some small "pieces " from that snapperhead. thats how we end up making that following movie. for the ones who havnt seen it yet. all the best.... -
for the ones that havent seen it yet, here a vid i made how the topHustlers chopping up a cubera i shot a while ago. all the best

dan, all of us were using riffe guns that day. only my back up gun was a modified beuchat "cavalero canon".
there is a riffe dealer in trinidad, and a jbl dealer. other guns not available, unless someone brings them in.
don paul, you could share these pics, no prob.
hau, we was diving over a shallow plateau about 20-30 feet deep. drifting over it with a 1 knot current.
on the edges of the plateau there are some big cracks and tunnel-like caves. anytime we started seeing big schools of bermuda chub in the open and black margate on the bottom we was getting close to one of these edges. start seeing the cracks and caves in the distance i start diving down and hold on to a seafan. the swells was pushing me a bit side to side. lying down , watching the entrance of two caves in 20-30feet distance, i see a 20pound black grouper coming out of the closer cave, swimming amongst the margates in my direction. i start lining him up, but he finally changed his mind and swims back into the cave further down. i surfaced and start swimming against the current to make me stay at the same spot. diving down again, rest myself on top of the caves entrance, push the gun over the edge and finally pulling myself over the edge to glide upsidedown in the caves entrance. as i looked into that dark cave i see a big shadow coming from deep inside straight up to my guntip. i realized that this shadow is too big to be the same grouper i saw swimming inside. and i just start seeing an eye appaering on the shadow, and start making out the shape of the head, i pull the trigger, and head to the surface. my single wrap cable stick all the way in the cave, just the part with the swivel connecting my reelline is outside. i didnt know how or where i shot the fish, but had the feeling it was a good shot. one of the divepartner arrive, and hold the tension on the line, as i took his gun to go down and see if i can spot the fish for a back up shot. as i start diving down, the fish floats out of the cave. turns out that my shot went in through his eye and came out down his belly. the spear went right through, so he end up on the cable. gave him a killshot and pull him in the boat.
