That brings up more questions than it answers. <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

cool, so you shoot and let the gun drift/sink? and then use floatline for retaining the gun?
I hang it from a leash like a Bad Ass dog.... Its a dangerous Mother:@ around kids. I posted in the Guns section.

back to grunting....
...for those of you who do it...do you use air? does it cost you significant bottom time?
why would you use air to grunt,, i cant grunt and release air if i try
lunker,
to prevent you from throwing up while grunting, you could try to eat some beans and peas two hours before the dive, farting does do the trick as well. <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">
tinu, that is hilarious
steve, I worded it poorly, what i meant was do you consume your breath to do it?
as I try it here in my chair, I was considering the hmph! sound a grunt, when it really isn't...when I actually grunt there is no air movement at all, but still, it feels like it uses air?

"grouper calling" or that low guttural grunting sound is also used to bring air from lungs to your mouth for deep dives. As you dive, the air in your mouth/cheeks gets used for equalizing your ears & mask... so it's necessary to draw up more air.
Be careful with that - it took me a while to learn how to grunt without moving air around. I use it to signal other divers underwater or to call in fish. Sometimes it makes a fish turn & head straight in... sometimes it makes an already skittish fish turn & take off. <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

You dont lose any air doing it. You could say that a grunt could cost you a tiny bit of energy, but i think its too small to notice.
Also i have tried using a knife to scrape small rocks...for some reason that have helped..but is not consistent with any species..the only species that comes all the time. is the damn Cudas. I guess because of the knife itself. Welll we love them for chumming..and also if you catch a fish for chumming..scrape the bones in the spine with the knife..that sound will bring godzilla out of the depths :)..that sound is very peculiar and very attractive to big fish even tax collectors. and it works.
