Thinking about hitting up pv tomorrow late morning for some shore diving. Mostly to explore since I haven't found a kelp stringer out there yet, thinking of diving off of trump as I heard there's a nice kelp forrest out there. Anybody been out recently? How was the fishing?

I should have added a smiley or chortle but that emoji shit is beyond me.

I don't think so Hank.
He's right. That was sarcasm through and through. I would never leash my gun to my arm even having a knife and line cutting razor on my belt. Just too much risk there for me when totally out of the human element.

A rope that attaches your gun to your arm, what could possibly go wrong?

Here is the only place online where spearos looking for unbiased
information about Mako Spearguns can find it.
Reading your intro and many others, it doesn't sound unbiased at all. It reads like a personal vendetta and call to arms.
I'm a customer of Freedive store and will remain one. I just think you should know what it looks like to those not in the click/inner circle. Censorship sucks, I totally agree and it's bull shit when a forum administration will peddle crap for ad revenue but you can't control them. You can only control your business and identity, turning around and flaming them just seems juvinile and would look very unflattering to companies/suppliers/wholesalers/marketers who are thinking about doing business with you.
My $.02 and no refunds accepted. -
I read the first few pages and just stopped. If you are running a business, why not let your business and customer service talk your trash. I run a successful DTC business and would never think about trashing my competitors in an open forum.
Everything you guys said may be true, I don't keep up with it enough to know but as a businessman and a consumer, shit talking the competition says more to me about the talker than the counterparty. -
I haven't been back down to PV since this dive, anybody know if it's settled down at all from the hurricane swell that kicked it all up?

Diving PV (Palos Verdes) is all about diving PV (poor visibility)..
People always say we're lucky for being close enough to it to dive it. I've never seem what's so great about it. Actually never shot a fish there.
If you've got any better spots you wanna share, I'm all ears. -
I took a 3 day of the wife and kids gone to explore some new spots around rpv. I'm bummed to report the worst 3 day's of visibility I've ever seen happen to show up too.
Abalone cove visibility was about 5 feet.
Vets about 5 feet
The only spot I found that I could see 10 feet was below trump and that vis was only in the high water column. There were balls of Bait moving in and out but those are the only fish I saw.
These were all beach entries since I don't have a boat.Hope others had better luck

Setup would be spear to spectra to mono, to spectra. I don'tthink ill run a reel 80%+ of the time.
George kind of my thoughts. I really didn't think straight spectra was Eben an option. Again wroth no reel, if I miss, I need a little cushion at the end of the rope -
Along the same lines as making wind on leaders, I was thinking of using jerry brown 16 strand hollow core spectra hollow spliced to my 300lb mono where it attaches to the spear. I feel like it would reduce drag, reduce reef chafe near the spear and just be a better option than a crimp. Any opinions?

I'm not a rocket surgeon, simply an observer but I'm throwing my if it sounds too good. .
I am a life long bow hunter and remember about ten years ago, Muzzy released a broadhead line with an asymmetrical chisel tip that very much resembled this spear. The major problem consumers notices was the tip did indeed steer the arrow in flight after about 10 yards.

Now how do you get it back? Or is this a semi permanent thing?
-
I have used it for many years. No issues.
Have you found any issue with premature ware? I've polished my fins up to 1500grit so there shouldn't be any sharp edges.

Is there anything wrong with using 550 parachute cord for wishbones?
It knots well, has a multi stand core that will stretch a finite amount, drys quickly, is not susceptible to mold or fungus, is available in many colors plus I have a grip of it.

In fairness to the actual person, I just did talk to josh on the fin issue and he was very understanding and helpful. I don't know who the last guy was that answered but the difference was obvious and immediate.

What epoxy product are you using?
West systems has a pdf on their website showing what and how much to use to get many different colors out of the epoxy.
Personally, I like using graphite due to the properties in it that make it also a lubricant.
Whatever you use, clear it with the epoxy manufacturer and run tests beforehand. I have seen people attempt to use analine dyes with epoxy. It mixes and sets fine but becomes Very fragile and brittle. Not what you want from your track.

There are marlin big enough to eat that tuna?

Any updates on the build? Let's see pics.

I can't speak for this case in particular, and I don't have any stake in Neptonics, just being good friends with Josh, but as far as Josh's customer service, things have changed a lot in the last year or so. When Neptonics was just a one man show, Johs used to go on product testing trips and still leads charters down to Baja. He was admittedly really bad at posting on the site when he would be gone and orders wouldn't be shipping.
Nowadays, things are a lot different. Josh has a full shop instead of doing business out of his garage, and has a full staff who should be filling orders whenever he's not around, which is more often than not these days.
It does suck that you had a bad experience, George. But if there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that everyone has a slip up from time to time. I'm sure most bisunesses, from Fortune 500 to mom and pop shops make mistakes from time to time. I would be hesitant to base my entire opinion of a company off one bad experience, especially with so many other people having so many good things to say about them.
Just my 2 cents...
I know this is an old thread but I have something to add.
Unfortunately, the above post is simply not true. Over the past two months while building 2 spearguns, I've done a lot of research and asked a lot of questions.
When looking at mechs, I sent neptonics an email asking a few simple questions about the reef mech vs wide mech, then sent dan an email about his reverse mech asking a few questions.
Dan was back to me within 6 hours with hot links in his email to specific things he suggested.
I still have not received an email back from neptonics.
I bought 2 mechs from dan after waiting on josh for a week.
Two weeks ago, I decided to try a set of long blade free dive finds versus the scuba fins I had. I offered a $90 set of beuchat fins from neptonics.
I received the fins within a week and the foot pocket is HUGE I sent am email asking for a call back and left a voice mail. After no call back, I called every day for 3 day's a few times during normal business hours until someone picked up the phone. Based on the voice, it did not sound like josh that I spoke to.
I informed them off the issue and that I would like to return them for a size smaller and was told to ship them back and they would seND me another set. I went on to ask if these normally were true to size and was told no, out of every ten we sell, 2 or 3 get returned back for a smaller size and nobody ever needs bigger ones. So I shipped my fins back at the $32 cost to me, being 30% of the total fin cost. I'm hoping the next ones will actually fit.If 30% of a specific product are being returned for the same issue, you need to do something about it. Even a disclaimer on the site that says these fins have been known to run large in size. Order accordingly.
Although shipping had been quick albe it the slowest option is chosen, the overall service had been sub par.I'm a business owner who has grown my business 300% in two years specifically on a bulletproof service model. If I ran my business like they do, I'd be broke and eating cat food. .
If someone from neptonics reads this and feels like anything here is untrue or unfair, please, feel free to pm me. It would be the first time I've actually gotten a response.
