During initial testing of the Aquatech "Black Sea" gun a spear of 9 mm diameter was measured exiting the gun at 45 m/sec. Some of the gun testing articles are still on the Web, but not the speed measurements as far as I can tell.

I remember that muzzle velocities attained were certainly over 40 m/sec. and mainly around 43 m/sec. In order to make any gains at these high velocities gun power needs ever larger increases for each extra increment, hence it is a case of diminishing returns as drag increases rapidly as the shaft has to virtually tear a hole through the water. Once that cavitation sheath collapses then the shaft experiences surface drag which soon pulls the speed back. Once it is flying the trailing shooting line stabilizes the shaft.

That is nuts. So if that speed has been reached why is that not our norm? Our average (band guns) do what, 30 m/sec?

I think he is aiming at a muzzle speed (?) of about 50 m/sec

Seriously? He anticipates being able to get the shaft to fly 50m/sec? That's almost twice the speed we can get now. That would be something to see. I think the biggest obstacle would be stability. If he can get the shaft out at that speed and keep it stable then he will be accomplishing some great things.

So last week I picked up my first kayak (Perception Prism). Pretty stoked to hit the water. For my car (Toyota 4Runner) I didn't have any racks or luggage bars, but I was picking it up used and needed racks right away. Got these racks just to be able to pick up the kayak and I must say I am quite surprised. They worked really good. They are inflatable, and come with a pump that takes seconds to pump. They are rated to hold up to 175 lbs. The d-rings give you several points to run the straps through when tying down the kayak. Was concerned about speed so I tried to keep it at 55mph, but hit 75mph when I wasn't paying attention. Not a problem for the racks. The kayak didn't budge. Not sure if these are going to last long term (appear like they may), but for $80 they were a nice deal for at least a quick fix. Just thought I would throw this out there for anyone looking for racks.

I can only assume the Luanda Bay Boys are the ones who set fire. I mean, who else would be motivated to do that in response to it being torn down? I don't understand these guys. They must not have heard the phrase, "don't shit where you eat." I don't understand people who vandalize their own hood. That's just like throwing trash in your backyard.

I must say attaching the gun to the rotisserie was a bit of a task. Could not figure how to attach it to the motor. After racking my brain I came up with this. It is a cork with a screw through it. I carved the cork so it would wedge into the square slot. The screw is there to screw into the butt. Worked perfect, until I walked away and wind blew open the garage door knocking the gun and rotisserie off the table. Was lazy/rushing/not thinking and didn't really secure the rotisserie or the bracket on the other end. Easy fix and lesson learned.

Good to know. I don't have room on this one, but my next build I'll likely leave myself enough room and give it a go.

I'm with you on those spikes that have the bracket. It looks much more clean without.

Question about the spike. How did you set it? Easy enough to make a hole and place the spike in it, but I couldn't figure out how to set it without it sliding out at any given point. Hence why I haven't incorporated it. Is it just a snug fit?

I've been wanting to incorporate a spike into a build. That would definitely make the muzzle part easy. I was planning on doing the nail in the muzzle and fill later, but to be honest I haven't read too much about the rotisserie. Figured it was pretty self explanatory. Thanks for confirming what I thought. I wasn't too sure so it's good to hear from someone else.

Thanks Dan! By contact points do you mean where I attach the gun to the rotisserie? If so, I figure the butt is easy to figure out since it will be covered anyway. I think at the muzzle is where it may get tricky.

I don't know how I've never heard of the rotisserie for finishing, but someone just mentioned it to me and I grabbed one. Going to set it up hopefully tonight and throw a coat on. For those of you who have not tried it I'll report back.

Haha! Yes! Glad you guys get the reference. Thank you all for the kind words.

A few more pictures for you all.

I decided to try using pigment. Figured I'd spice things up so I coated the track and trigger pocket with epoxy/pigment. Kind of cool. I'd definitely like to try some different stuff in the future with pigments.

Sounds kind of like my feet. I use Omer Stingrays. They are closer to $180 though. My buddy wears Omer Eaglerays which are slightly cheaper. I do not know how the fit is on them, but I will say that I like those blades more than the Stingray blades I think (just by look and touch; they are much softer and flexible). I am not too sure of any foot pocket/blade combos that are $100 per unfortunately.
