Another person will have to chime in on your first question as some one is usually holding the camera on our dives.

On Dan's suggestion I purchased the Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate. This was my first experience with video editing software and I found the software to be pretty intuitive. In an afternoon I was able to learn how to crop clips, add music, create DVD menu and chapters, and add pictures. Basically, the fundamentals of creating a simple movie. The largest files I use are 1 gig and the software seems to be able to import them timely and play them back smoothly.

I would like to learn how to fade music in and out to go along with actual sounds the camera recorded...still working on that, but I imagine it can be done.

It would be nice if a couple of us were using the same editing software to share tips and tricks.

Anybody that uses the GO Pro I always tell them to aim the camera lower than what they would expect. However, divers still seem to disappear off the bottom of the screen quite frequently...it simply takes some getting used to. Since this is the problem i find the r5 setting to be ideal based on greekdivers advice. It seems Paul has the opposite issue of my camera operators, so I understand why he likes the r4 setting.

I also wanted to add that I have been extremely happy with eye of mine's product and service.

    Hey Guys,

I have a question about Blu Ray and the Go Pro.

Does anyone have any experience with the picture quality comparison of burning the go pro 1080p video to blu ray rather than a normal DVD?

My initial thought was it would be spectacular to watch the video on blu ray, but perhaps because the video is underwater the detail might not be noticable between a Blu Ray disc and a regular DVD mainly because i am not diving in crystal clear water.

Also, when I playback the HD Hero through my Sony PS3 via the usb cable, is it true 1080P or do I lose some resolution? This would help me decide whether a blu ray burner might be worth the cost. If the Blu Ray looks identical to the USB than I will probably skip on the Blu Ray burner.

    Thanks.

Hopefully you all are not tired of my posts yet.

My cousin's family and his friend's family headed over to my parents house for their annual July 4th vacation. They were nice enough to bring me along as well.

I convinced myself from the getgo to be relaxed and realize I will probably not do much spearing since it is a family vacation. If it was up to me I would be in the water all day long.

All in all I shot at 6 fish and got 6 fish. I feel pretty good about it considering the size of the hogs and having to use a hawaiin sling over there. I would enjoy talking tactics with anyone else that uses a hawaiing sling. I have gone from going for kill shots, to trying to launch the shaft through their gills.

I also bought a digital scale, I figured it was time since we had been getting some good size hogs to weigh them. The 2 big hogs this trip went 14.6 and 13.7 pounds. If I recall correctly the 2 muttons were in the 9 pound range.

This was the hog and yellowfin from the first day. He was the larger one.

This second hog required some team work. I shot him and he darted off until he could find a head where he was comfortable enough to get under. When we found him, the fish was about to succomb to his fate, but my cousin put a three pronger through him for good measure. It was good team work, I am not sure I would have been able to find him with out the assistance.

On the next particular excursion, after I had speared a mutton, a pod of dolphins joined us. There must have been 12, some were babies. They swam with us for 45 minutes until we grew tired and left them. They followed us in all the way on the boat. By far the coolest thing I have done in the water. I have video that is ridic. Once I have a chance to edit it, I will post.

We had a boat this trip, so I got to do some diving outside the reef in 45 feet of water. On my first drop I saw the largest black I had ever seen. He went at least 40 pounds. I have no idea how I would even go about landing him with a sling or even a pole spear for that matter. I saw cameron kirkconnell's picture with the 50 pound black with a pole spear so it can be done...but i am no cameron.

Dan, attached some pursuit promotion...love the fins...thanks again.

We decided to head over there for a short weekend. Went with two guys that are real good in the water, so we had a good team.

On the flight over, my buddy Nik was telling me if he gets a hog like I did back in May, he was going to get it mounted. This guy has been diving all his life in the keys and the bahamas, so if the hogs were there, he was going to get his personal best. Mission accomplished.

We were still diving off our trusty inflatable. Ha. As a side note, I think the inflatable really emphasizes the point on how good the spearing is (and how lucky we are to get over there).

I went over with another couple from Orlando. They went with me last year around this same time, and it was really the only experience they had fishing and diving. They were a lot more relaxed in the water this year and spent some time snorkeling.

We had good weather. Most of our diving was done from the beach in an soft bottom inflatable whose bottom fell off -- it still gets the job done.

I got these two hogs with in 5 minutes being in the water -- they were swimming together and they stuck together as I was sticking them. 20 feet of water or so. I think the last trip, the largest hog was a few pounds -- needless to say the couple was impressed with these guys.

We also went out on someone's boat and he caught his first fish. not a bad way to start his fishing career. While we were along the weed line, i saw a massive triple tail. Jumped in the water with a 3 pronger...they have tarpon like scales which i did not know...after multiple times hitting him and getting no where i gave up. If i had to do it again, I would have just taken video of the poor guy. They are like puppy dogs, that will probably be my last time trying to spear one of them.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. It made it a watchable video with him whiffing on the first shot. I will try to post a trip report. We did pretty good over there last weekend. I have seen lots of big hogs this summer -- i dont know if i am a better freediver or less people have been coming over to the islands...probably both.

Greek - I will switch back to the 5 setting. it did look beautiful on my samsung.

Lunker - I was suppose to only be the video guy on that 1 specific dive, so i left the gloves in the boat!

I bought a ScanDisk Ultra 16GB card. I was not aware of the classes...it is a class 4. I figured it was the best since it was $90. I switched from using the 5 (1080) setting to the 4 (720) setting because the 5 setting was a little choppy. I guess I need to play around with it a little more and figure out if it is my computer or the card.

I uploaded a video to youtube using the 4 setting from the eyeofmine case. I noticed a white ring from the video. The instructions told me to black out the silver ring around the lense. However, I never noticed it before I put it on youtube.

The 4 setting really looks great on my computer and when I burn it to DVD. However, obv I would like to use the 5 setting if it is smooth.

With shipping and the headstrap it was $372. IMO it still is a very fair deal. Also add another $95 for a 16GB card at Best Buy.

Yes, I was pleasantly suprised when I received both cases. Because of the flat lense on the modified underwater housing they suggest not to use it on land because water/dust particles tend to stick to the flat lense. So, I can use the original housing on land.

Maybe it was because I was in fresh water, but I found the flat lense did not collect water once it was removed from the water.

    As an update:

I bought the camera from eyeofmine with the underwater modification. The camera came with the original underwater housing plus the modified flat lense housing.

I tried it in a 25m pool this weekend and was impressed. It was exactley what I was looking for. I played it back on my Widescreen Samsung HD TV and I have no complaints.

I purchased a 16GB card to go with it - at the suggested setting of 1080P, my 15min video was 1 Gig.

I am going to take Dan's suggestion of purchasing the Pinnacle Studion 14 HD Ultimate to edit the video and burns dvds.

Once I edit it down to a realistic length I will post it for comparison purposes.

    thanks for the video Davesea.

You probably have already answered this question, but what HD format are you using...example 1080 or 720p?

Also have you tried viewing the camera on your actual TV rather than downloading it to your computer and viewiing it there? Is it clearer and crisper on your TV then on this website because the version has to be compressed for our forum purposes? Thx.
