Tried out my new Aqua Lung mask with plastic lens today. I did not prep the lens in anyway and just used spit in it this first time. No fogging but it seemed a little hazy. I'm a first timer with plastic and the shop I got it from had no advice. Any suggestions regarding prep and care are appreciated.

First dive Impressions in only 20' as follows. The field of view is great with the mask, but the curved lens seems to magnify depth and sort of exagerate 3D. I was afraid that it might affect my aim, but I managed a perfect shot on a fast moving Cero that I might not of seen without the extra field of view this mask has. Definitely, the curved lens will take some getting used to. I bought the mask due to low volume and intended to use it on deeper dives as my old mask squeezed uncomfortably beyond 50'. I can't wait to take it deeper. It clears with little effort so it must be lower volume. As an added bonus, the strap is a dream compared to my old Cressi that caused pain around my ears due to the plastic clips.

Maybe you guys are talking about bioluminescent dinoflagellates? You can make glowing snow angels by swirling around them at night. Lots of fun for the kids, there's a few images of people doing it on the web if you search bioluminescent dinoflagellates

Both were out in the sand, camoflagued about as well as a rock fish. From 15' and closer their shape was clear but not obvious at first.

Ha, moose is a descriptive term for something large. I guess it's a more common term up north than down here.
Both fish were in 15'-20' and we saw another about nine months ago at similar depth.

I can text pics and details to your phone? If so, feel free to post, my smart phone cant upload to pic hosting sites.

Spearalina and I went out yesterday and today for bugs. Did not get any but got a nice flounder yesterday and a moose today. Anyone else notice them becoming prevalent in this area or did we just get super lucky?

About four years ago I was living near the beach in Deerfield relocating from up north after a one year stint in China. Being from up north I've always wanted to spearfish so I got my licence, regs, foam flag float, lawstick, mesh bag, borrowed fins, and whatever gun I could find cheap. I was clueless, but determined. Everynight after work, I'd go out solo, sans dive knife looking for fish in 2-4' waves with less than 5 foot viz for 2-3 hours until dark. I saw lots of baitfish, huge tarpon, and nurse sharks. On about the 3-4th day diving I connected with my first fish (a small cero) took it home, gutted it, grilled it, ate it, lost 10 lbs over the course of the next week, and got good enough that I sometimes I could bring home 2 macs for dinner

Two weeks ago i took my first squid, had it prepared the usual way of fried calamari, and it was better than any I've had! Are there any Florida species to avoid, handling methods, special preparations or cleaning techniques? Any recipes other than deep fried would be appreciated as well.

I put my gun up anytime jetskiers are getting close, other wise they like to buzz us and go roundy round in circles. I have prism tape around my barrel which usually scares them off,,,, the gleam of sharp steel maybe.

If you are diving from a yak, a 20 with a reg, and a few pounds of lead strapped to the tank would help contingent that you have basic scuba skills. Keep it hangin off the side with a quick release so you can go down early and be familiar with the CESA routine.

I just stumbled across the business card of a place near the river in Nelson a few miles from the river that rents kayaks. Their number is 702-291-0026 web is Colorado River Tours . Both the GF and I had sinus issues due to the dryness and dust, we will be bringing a neti pot when we go back and dive.

i was just there 2 weeks ago and stumbled upon a dive shop in Boulder City called "Scubafy". Charlie the owner gave us alot of great advice about dive spots, spearfishing, and area specific hazards such as people from shore chucking rocks at dive flags. Nice folks there, I'm sure they could help you out.

Hit Pompano drop off yesterday morning for a few hours with the GF. Viz was at least 40. only got 1 hog and 1 Mac. Did see a manta speeding by with Cobia in tow that was too far away to get to. Great day of exercise that yielded dinner as well, couldn't get any better.

Went south of Pompano pier to the buoys after work yesterday and got one Cero and one Spanish. Missed a few other macs. No Jellies or boat traffic, viz at least 35 with light waves. Good results for last hours of daylight

Glad to see you on here young Patrick. You wearin a speedo til you find a wetsuit is cool,,, but the potato goes in the front of it, not the rear dude. Hopefully, you can learn other good stuff from the members on this site.
