I have Jbl Competition Magnum XHD 55" That I use for shooting AJ's, Cobia, Cudas, Red Snapper and Mangrove Snapper on Scuba and Freediving. I have a Jbl Magnum XHD 63". My freediving gun that I will start using this is will be a Rob Allen 120 w/ a vecta reel (130ft reel line). The Rob Allen 120 is 47" long w/ twin 16mm bands. It's gonna pwn some fish this year!

Sweet man. That's exciting cant wait to see how good it looks suited up on someone. Thanks for the info. I really think i'd like to get one from you. Just waiting to see how it looks suit up hoodie, the works. I really like your work on that green camo and cant wait to see the blue camo. good work dan! I the design.

congrat Fishmaster...glad t osee you have an awareness about how expensive this can get and are taking it slow...

get to know your gear...it is the difference between life and death...take it slow and dive safely friend :)

Indeed. I am big on SAFETY. Thanks for the words from the wise. I appreciate it and will definitely be posting some photos when we start hunting this season.

Rok shot that alligata gar in about 20ft deep water. He is quite good at holding his breath freediving in the lake.

I like the vid of him diving for Gar in the Hi Way drainage ditch, I almost pissed my gi .
    Don

yea that ditch was nasty and prolly had plenty of diseases invested in the water. but yea in the lake he can hold for over a 1:30. can cover some ground look for those big boys and cat daddys.

The Louisiana rigs scuba spearfishers are the only scuba spearfishers I respect. Part of the reason is that it's an artificial structure that will never be completely depleted. Thanks for the pics, Rok's hard core.

I agree. Places that are filled with wrecks and reefs like florida and tropical waters can get depleted extremely easy by scuba spearfishermen and that ruins the harvest for other people and the next generation.

Yea man! Rok is bad-to-the-bone! And a great voice for spearfishermen and women's rights. He's going to Washington this month to right for our rights with the FRA.

Properly fitted footpockets don't require fin keepers. They're only 5 bucks so it's no big deal. But they annoyed me after I got them and never used them.

When and what is the aqu aces rodeo?

It's was a Freediving Tournament established by scuba/freediving spearfishing club in Metairie, Louisiana (pretty much New Orleans) called the New Orleans "Aqua Aces". The tournament last year was a great success and griswold is building the 1st place winner Keith Love's custom gun.

As of now they dont have a set date for the 2010 Aqua Aces Freediving Rodeo. Here's a website for future reference Dan. http://www.aquaaces.net/index.php

I plan to dive the Rodeo this year if I am not working at my chemical refinery those days. Here are some pictures of Rok's Alligata Gar I took when we were diving in Lake Ponchartrain that sunday.

I told Rok we need a bada$$ picture of him and the gator showing off their teeth and this is what we got!

I've starting training in the gym. Doing some intense running and breathholding, weightlifting and building up my legs/abdominal section too. Planning to start training in a pool at LSU that the Swim Team uses if me and my friend can get approval to do so.

Here is a List of what I got (Keep in mind I'm just getting start so I didnt buy the latest and greatest):

    1) Picasso BlackTeam Fins 44/46
    2) Riffe Naida Clear Mask
    3) Riffe Stable Snorkel (I know I know)
    4) 2mm Freediver's socks
    5) Large fin keepers
    6) Rob Allen Weightbelt

I have weightbelts for my scuba but I want one for freediving and one for scuba.
Planning on getting a Mako Blue Camo 3mm Wetsuit and a Manta Scuba/Freediving Computer Watch later on. Getting all of this is pricy.... so I'm buying it in sections.
I know some will be mad I got the Stable Snorkel but hey if it isnt all that I want, I'll switch. I really liked the design and think it will work for freediving/scuba. It is expensive but I think I'm going to get my $$$ worth.

I'm really really excited and hopefully I can dive the Aqua Aces Freediver's Rodeo this year I'm happy and can't wait to get in the action.

Is there people out there that make them to sell like this or similar? Looks like that gun would cost a person prolly over $1800. how much did it cost to build? I was at the AA rodeo diving the lake with rok and we came back with a +55 alligata gar.

In Grand Isle/Fourchon, Louisiana the 30mile rigs are like 200-250ft deep; Out of Venice, Louisana South Pass 12mile rigs are +1000ft deep. Louisiana waters are deep deep and unfortunately a hard fighting fish will definitely get you into a deep fight. I do scuba for Amberjack, Grouper, and Red Snapper down to like 175ft deep. Now I'm getting started to shoot lemonfish in shallow like the 75ft deep rigs in Grand Isle. It's a start! Then when we go out deeper, I use scuba for the other deep deep fish.

I really admire griswold and lafreediver. They are very experienced and awesome freedivers. Lafreediver told me that he's been hunting down to depths of 120ft during the AA Freediving Rodeo! They all have mad skill and shoot some awesome yellowfin tuna and hoos! I hope that I can get to that level one day, but it will take some time that's for sure!

I do it the ghetto way... Squirt some conditioner in suit, pour some water in, then shake like hell! :)

To further clarify, I shake the suit. I don't stand there in the parking lot dancing around. Well... sometimes, but that's besides the point.

this reminds me of Dodgeball the movie when they are wash the vehicles and the song "My Milkshake Brings All the Boys to the Yard". Haaha I definitely understand you on that.

Do you have to do that with a one-piece suit too? I think I'm gonna get a mako blue camo 3mil soon.

yeah is there a particular reason you want such a beast reel?

oh i dont want one but i couldnt figure out what type of reel they were using. search the internet and couldnt find them. they look like good quality reel. Maybe a good bluewater reel for hoos and yf.

You had me confused. On another thread you were asking which snorkel to get which led me to believe you're a beginner freediver. Turns out you hunt bluewater using floats and are now making the move to hunting inside the rigs. I don't know if it's true that a reel is essential to freedive the rigs, maybe Griswold can confirm? It doesn't change the fact that it's for advanced divers and dangerous for beginners. I realize this doesn't help you with your original question, but I felt compelled to give you a heads up.

I have floats to use for bluewater and have used it a couple times, but am not experienced at all with bluewater diving. I'm most scuba diving but I like to freedive 1st half of trip and scuba 2nd half. I have 2-30L rounded floats and a 75ft floatline. If i had it my way i'd love to use the floats and floatline in the rig but they would be brutally cut up and ripped with the strong currents that we experience quite frequently offshore in louisiana.
