Does anyone have any suggestions for equalizing ear pressure? I pinch my nose, hold my breath, and blow out, but I still get a ton of pressure in my ears by 10-15 feet. Thanks.

I'm looking for a gear bag right now. I see that this is an older thread, so how do you guys like that Mako bag after a few months of using it? I'm sick of carrying an armload of gear down to the lake, so I really need a bag. I've been looking at the Cressi Apnea Team bag, which looks really nice, but $50-$60 is pretty steep. Does anyone else have a recommendation. I don't want a mesh bag.

Dan, the ones I wear are from Body Glove, and are basically very similar to bicycle shorts. They reach almost to my knees and fit like a second skin. They don't bunch up at all under my suit.

If I have a place to change away from prying eyes, I go commando. It's by far the most comfortable way to go. If I need to change in public, I wear lycra dive skin shorts. They're not as comfortable as wearing nothing at all, but they are a good modesty preservative.

Has anyone read the book Manual of Freediving: Underwater on a Single Breath, by Umberto Pelizzari? I thought it might be a worthwhile read for a beginner like myself. Any thoughts?

I've never run into this issue before. Where I live, I've neither seen nor heard anyone hassle another about their fishing habits. I've fished with by-the-book anglers, C&R-only anglers (which I am), and even anglers who cheat on their limits by a fish or two (which I've only encountered once or twice, and frown upon), and I've spoken with hundreds more that I've met at the lake or the bait shop, and not once have I heard one fisherman berate another. I was never aware that this was a prevalent problem.

Fuzz, what is it about catch-and-release bass fishing that you find elitist or snobby? I don't really understand that.

I read the whole snorkel information page, but it doesn't really give many examples of models that are preferable. I'm looking for one that is semi-rigid, not one of those soft, folding models.

Is the Cressi Corsica stiff, or is it one of those soft ones that can be folded up?

What is your favorite/current snorkel?

What do you guys think of Marseille-style buckles versus friction/clamp type buckles? I'm getting my first weight belt and I'd like to know the pros and cons of each. Thanks.

I know this is trivial, but it always drives me nuts when I find out I've been pronouncing a name wrong. And I always hear many brand names pronounced differently from different people, some of which I've included below. So I'd like input from everyone on the proper pronunciations of the following names:

Mares: like the horse?; marr-ez?; marr-eez?; mars (like the planet)?

Omer: o-murr?; o-mare?

Riffe: riff?; riff-ee?; riffa?

I know there are others that I can't think of at the moment.

Dan, where did you buy your setup from? I'd like to get a small point-and-shoot along with a housing to take diving, just something on the cheap end. I wish they made a housing for my P90, but I guess that's not possible with a super-zoom. Ikelite has a setup on their site that includes the housing and a pretty basic Nikon for $390.

I got a 5mm Sporasub. I really like the green camo pattern on those Pursuits too, though. My two friends who were with me were both wearing Mares Trilastic 8-6-5 one piece suits. I think I stayed just as warm as they were, but I didn't have a zipper to leak. They were getting some water infiltration.

Hey guys. I just tried out my new wetsuit in the water for the first time. The ice just came off Lake Superior so I decided to take a swim and try it out. Amazing! I couldn't even feel a temperature difference on my skin until I'd been standing in the water for a couple of minutes. I didn't have neoprene gloves or socks on, so I had to get back out after about 20 minutes when I started to lose feeling in my hands and feet. I was completely warm and totally comfortable everywhere else though, without a drop of water entering the suit. I had forgotten how great these things are. I can't wait for the weather to warm up a bit more so I can get out there again!

I don't typically get ankle/knee pain while running. I wear a size 11 shoe normally, and my feet are a little wide, not super wide, but not slender! I wear normal width shoes, if that helps at all. I don't have Incredible Hulk leg strength, but my legs are pretty strong.

There is a dive shop about 25 miles from my home, but they really cater more to the SCUBA community. As an example of the level of diving that goes on around here, I've spent my whole life at the many lakes around my area in one capacity or another (swimming, fishing, etc.) and I can't recall ever seeing a single person diving, neither apnea nor SCUBA. I highly doubt anybody has a set of long fins available for me to try. You posed a really good question Lunker. I am not experienced enough to know for sure what level of stiffness in a fin would really be suitable for me. I would certainly welcome any thoughts on the matter.

Marco, you mentioned the Mares Razors. I had actually been considering them as well, but I just heard so many good things about the Cressis that I pushed the Mares aside. I'm going to take all the advice I've received here and purchase long fins first, so the question now is: Cressi Gara 3000 LDs or Mares Razors? I'm not really predisposed toward either brand.
