Display MorePlamen tips are good but require maintenance. The bad thing about them, or at least the ones I had in the past was the knot retaining saltwater and corroding the threads which eventually broke because of it.
Mori's are definitely the best. I have tried a few of the competitors and they just don't have have the precision mating that Mori's do; which will cause the shaft to veer off course, or even worse, have the tip fall off the shaft before it hits the fish
Not kidding.
Mori mates each tip and adapter individually, to ensure proper fit and alignment.
Mike, what length shaft are you looking for? I have a few Mori shafts and 2 slip-tips that I would be willing to part with, as I no longer have any guns that utilize these shafts. They are in "like new" condition.
Looking for an 8mmx180cm shaft (5/16x71"-72"). Please PM me with what you have and price
Steve you got your own yak??
if conditions hold ill be out on sunday, good luck tomorrow guys let us know how you do.
seas are flat right now but i doubt viz is anygood. Somebody go out and bring us back a report
Target fish will be mahi, wahoo and other bigger stronger south florida fish (tuna, amberjack, kingfish, etc). I saw the Mori on ebay and its consistent with all the prices I saw on the net (~$95).
The Rob Allen slip tube is the latest one I've seen and is very simple and from what I've read has good reviews. I think I would be very easy to produce one if I pick up one of Dan's shafts and his shaft drilling tool. Then get a piece of stainless tube and some spectra. The only drawbacks I've seen mentioned about it and not even any reports. 1) scales/flesh could get wedged between tube and shaft and not allow deployment (no reported incidents in a quick google search). 2) Due to design shaft has to travel all the way through and slip all the way back out, whereas typical slip tips are just kind of seated on the point (Again no report of this problem just theoretical circumstance) To buy a Rob Allen slip tube shaft setup is $130+shipping. For near that amount I'd rather have the Mori.
If I make a knockoff slip tube and it fails, I can add a flopper and have a second shaft for my BW gun. If it works I've saved my money and I'll be even more ecstatic knowing it's one more homemade piece on my homemade gun.
Has anybody used to Rob Allen slip tube? Seems very simple ( I think I could make one). Might give it a try and if it doesn't work I'll install a flopper and buy a Mori.
I've used Plamen Kolev slip tips. They're good and reasonable priced.
I've read lots of good about PK but can't find a working website or any contact info. Do you know how to find them?
I hope the forecast improves or youll be bodysurfing on that thing.
I've been looking around and pricing slip-tips for my build. Mako is the cheapest and the Mori was the most expensive I've seen. I don't really want this to be known as a budget build, I'd rather it be a top-notch killing instrument. What slip-tips have you guys used/prefer/disapprove of??
P.S. Anybody have one for an 8mm shaft for sale?
i still don't see the point of eating fish raw. i don't get it.
Some fish taste better uncooked.
Thanks for the kind words guys, please tell your friends. Somebody always needs a truck around the house. Got the call today that my new truck is at the dealer, I'll be going to test drive it and inspect it this weekend.
P.S. Getting the red painted portion of the front bumper repainted this week. A rock chip allowed moisture under the clear and it started to peel.
It is going to be enclosed track. Would 3 20mm bands be better or would it be overkill?
I'm going to be using a 170-190cm 8mm slip tip shaft on my new bluewater gun. I plan on using Dan's 16mm small ID bands. Will I need 3 or 4 bands to make it deadly at 20'? I was planning on drilling individual band holes and offsetting them so the bands stack nicer. Is that a good idea or should I just cut a slot?
Wow the structure you guys have is crazy!!!! the more videos of Cali that I see the more I want to dive there.... Need to get used to that water temp though... oh yeah and Pursuit>Mako
Found a 2005 chevy 2500hd ext. cab diesel 4x4. Will pull my boat with ease and can handle towing my mud truck on a flat bed.
Wanted to add that last week I replaced the parking lights with new OEM units and all 6 bulbs in them as well as 2 plugs/pigtails due to brittle plastic from heat/age. Also cluster bulbs were changed out to red LEDs
Guys I've found my next vehicle and am trying to jump on it, but in order to make this happen my current truck, regrettably, needs to go. Up for sale is a 2000 GMC Sierra SLT with red exterior and tan cloth interior. Current mileage is around 95k. Truck has 5.3l V8 engine with which I get from 16-20 MPG, 4 speed automatic transmission, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS. Towing package which includes auxillary transmission cooler, locking rear differential, factory hitch/wiring, and tow/haul mode to change shift points and TCC lockup. Power windows, locks, mirrors, cruise control, I have 2 keys and remotes. I am the second owner, the first bought the truck in 2000 with only 26 miles on it I have all of the original paperwork and window sticker. I bought it from Mr. Miller in February 2010, he was a retired airline pilot looking to downsize to one vehicle. I bought the truck with 69k miles and have driven it every day since its purchase. Right before I bought the vehicle the spark plugs, upper and lower radiator hoses, both drive belts and the fuel filter were changed(I have all his receipts over 10 years). Since I've owned it I have done the following:
3M window tint installed by the dealer I worked at, 15% on side and rear windows
10/18/10 - fuel pump, rear parking brake shoes, rear rotors
December 2010 - Brand new Monster transmission(rated to 500hp) and torque converter(1650 stall) with 3 yr unlimited mileage warranty, has just over 2 years remaining on the warranty. I have the full transmission build sheet including an extra deep pan for holding additional fluid and a performance shift kit.
This year I installed the headlights from a Denali pickup which have projector lenses for improved nighttime visibility (look better too). I also installed a different factory instrument cluster that includes transmission temp. so that I could keep an eye on it while driving/towing for added peace of mind.
Truck also includes a full Polk audio sound system including DB component system mounted in the doors and 2 8" subwoofers mounted behind the seat, powered by an alpine amp.
Truck gets Mobil 1 10w30 oil changes every time the maintenance light comes on, tires rotated at every oil change, aligned once since I've had it. Front and rear brake pads are in excellent shape. I changed the A/C filter at some point while I've had it but can't remember date or mileage.
I'd like to get $6500 for the vehicle, if you think its high you should come see it. I can answer any and all questions you may have about it I am a certified professional mechanic. I baby the truck and try to take very good care of it. If anyone on here needs something to pull a boat (under 20') this is a great truck for it, I use it on the weekends to pull my 20' Proline. Almost forgot to mention that it has a clean history, I had Carmax check it today while they appraised it.
Picture of it the day I bought it:
thanks Dan I guess I'll have to play around with it a bit.
Guys I was looking for hip loading dimensions but thank you.
For a rear handled hip loading gun how far from the butt end should the rear end of the trigger mech be? The only hip loading gun I have access to is a Biller and I wanted to know your opinions before taking measurements from it.
Get well soon
