I roll my dive flag up and stick in in my H dessault bag, it has two zippers so I just leave the flag pole sticking out and put a cap on it so nobody gets hurt, the same could be done for any spare shaft. I have seen the Pursuit dive bag in person and it is very nice and very similar to the Dessault. The relief cutouts in the backpack straps are a very nice touch in the comfort department, something the more expensive Dessault doesn't have.

My H. dessault is the bees knees but it's somewhat expensive. They can, however, be found on sale or online for a good price.

Get well Dan, I'm off on Wednesday if you are well enough for a visitor.

I see spear holes on many of the fish, but the damage inflicted seems minimal. Also in the first one the colors seem to be enhanced I cant imagine the light on his face being that bright.

Went out 11/30/11 seas were less then 1' all day unfortunately viz was 25' or less all day. I didn't see many jellyfish all day. Macs are everywhere! you can see them crashing bait if you watch the surface for a couple minutes. Originally it was going to be me and 3 bubble butts, but 2 cancelled so we found a boat bun to hold down the fort while me and a friend were diving. I ended with 2 nice macs for fish dip and 3 bugs, my friend got 3 bugs. We both think we missed the same Mutton because I blew my shot and maybe a minute later he came up cursing that he had just missed a mutton that went blowing by him. Water was mid 70s with little to no current. I used my pursuit 3mm all day and was comfortable.

lol Mike, what happened? I also always wanted to try night free diving. Would be good info if you could describe your experience.
Went out with a friend at about 5 one evening, it was fall so it got dark around 6-630. We couldn't find any fish but on our way in we found a big rock with lots of bugs under it. We had brought one small underwater flashlight to aid in finding bugs, but it was nearly useless once it was pitch black. We stayed on the rock longer than we wanted and longer than we should have rounding up all of the legal bugs. BW hunting is eerie, if you've never done it I can't explain it but something about jumping in the water and looking around and seeing blue water with no perspective of space/distance as far as the eye can see is creepy. I still have a hard time relaxing and calming down out in open water. Night diving with nearly no light is similar except now no matter what direction you look you can't see at all. We were at a max depth of 20' and the bottom wasn't visible and we couldn't see each other. All that was visible was the little beam from the flashlight. As soon as the light was gone it was like being in a deep cave with the lights off. I couldn't see my hand in front of my face, and when underwater you couldn't tell which way was up. Luckily, at least the night I was out, there were almost no boats, we felt ok because we could hear them a lot sooner than we could see them. With no light on my dive board or flag we were invisible to everyone.
My friends have gone out scuba diving at night with plenty of light and said it was awesome. It takes a minute to shake that "there's something behind me" feeling but after that it's supposed to be a whole nother ball game. I remember shining the light on an undersized hog and it froze, things are definitely different out there at night. I really should do it again and plan and prepare for a night dive just to see if I can relax and enjoy it. We did get quite a few bugs so in the end it was worth it, but my friend and I still bring it up and joke about it every now and then. Looking in at the city lights is pretty cool if it's a perspective you've never seen before.

I have an Energizer brand LED headlamp I use in the garage/attic and when working on cars at night. It is super bright but I don't know if it is waterproof. It may be worth it to look into LED headlamps.
FYI it is creepy as shit diving at night. I've done it once from the beach and haven't grown the cojones to try it again. From a boat might be different, but again still lacking the cojones to try it.

Over the past week or so my grandparents have been downsizing to a condo. Many of their old possessions were boxed and donated to various members of the family. Among the things I came across yesterday were 3 old speartips. Age and maker are both unknown but I find them fascinating and they have given my grandpa and I that much more to discuss. Here they are if anybody knows anything about them I'd love to hear it.

Almost forgot I posted this here. Thanksgiving day bump. New truck has arrived and I really don't have the space/money for three trucks.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

I don't like when a fish rips off and now due to my incompetence the fish may or may not survive and has to attempt to do so with serious injury. When I see hunting shows and they make poor shots and the animal has to bleed out while they follow it for hours, or days, that to me isn't a clean kill. A stone shot is the cleanest but I feel other shots are also made cleanly. Any shot that requires an animal to bleed out for hours isn't clean in my book.

Massive fish! My uncle has a 1300+ pounder on his wall and this one looks quite a bit bigger. Where was that taken?

I'm buying a Mori from a member here, when I get it your more than welcome to check it out.

went out 11/16 it was 3' in the morning and calmed down to 2' by noon, water is very green and murky.

Just FYI the cams are also easily viewable by clicking the beach cams link at the top right of the speardiver page. I will be going trolling for dolphin tomorrow, I will post a conditions report in the afternoon. Every site I've been to says 2-3 feet hopefully that's the truth and I can find some fish. There is a big void in my freezer that needs filling

I really love diving with limited amounts of gear (probably why I'm so drawn to freediving as opposed to scuba). If it wasn't for my love of diving I don't think I'd bother putting a wetsuit on to dive the winters here. That being said, I dove in the keys last winter for lobsters in 56 degree water in a 5mm suit. Hats off to you Cali guys because I couldn't do it. I suffered through 4 hours of it and got 2 bugs. I was totally frozen/blue/numb by the time I got out and don't ever want to do it again. My ears hands and feet were the worst(no hood). Not to rub it in but its really nice to dive water in the 80s with 60+ feet of visibility(in the keys) with nothing more than a bathing suit and maybe 4lbs. I guess I'm spoiled.
I'd say I'm a mediocre diver here in south Florida, if we can dive deeper and longer here then I'd flat out suck out there.
