how far do you guys go out? I beach dive and have been out to about 25 feet... is that far enough or should i keep swimming? im not tired at that point at all and usually stay out there for 2-3 hours, but if I need to continue further out next time I will. Im hoping to go out friday around noon and any help is appreciated

i own the prism, Steve is using it now, it is 14'4" and a great yak...check the gaskets around the hatches as they are poorly designed and will cost you 30$ each hatch to replace them, not a big deal, but worth checking...also, what does the bottom look like (scratches are normal, deep gouges are bad. and check inside the scupper holes for any cracking, that is typically the thinnest part of the plastic and often the first place you will see damage....

.....does this prism have two or four scupper holes? the older model had two and was regarded as a great yak, the newer one has four and I have read mixed reviews

also, what brand paddle? if it is a nice paddle, go for it. if not offer 300 :D as a comparison, I bought mine for 200 but it is close to 20yrs old now...still in showroom condition, sort of ;)

sorry new to yak terms what/where are the scuppers... nothing listed about the paddle just that its included, i dont even know what a nice paddle would be or look like...

theres the link if you want to take a look, hes got 2 pictures posted but neither one is great

my 3 piece didnt align perfectly but not hugely off, I want a 1 piece because ive heard about breakdown models loosening and any screw-in joint is less stable than solid (some slight wobble was noticeable- but could be mostly overcome by using longer threads). I thought about just keeping the 3 piece and welding it solid and smoothing it out to make it completely straight but realized that although its possible and would only take me like 20 minutes, he was in the wrong and should have sent me what I ordered. lunkerbuster im sure you could easily make something like your talking about just to give it a try. it wouldnt cost much and you could tailor it to your exact specs.

85 total with tax since hes in florida. also i ordered it friday and it was here monday before noon. awesome service, oh and when I called him today and informed him of the mistake he responded with "aw shucks" haha seems like a real nice guy and an excellent businessman

im 6'1" about 200 pounds only going to be freediving from it and I use a polespear not a gun so I wont have much gear... I have a gmc sierra so i guess size really isnt a factor although I wanted to keep it fairly small for transport to/from ocean from parking lot. ill scour craigslist and see what I find, approximately what should I expect to pay?? I see some on there used for 1000+ others are in the 500 range....

OK i got my ray odor today unfortunately he sent me a 3 piece and i ordered the solid one piece- so im exchanging it for the right one. gotta say it is a big badass spear mine measures 8.5 feet total length (6 feet of aluminum and 30 inches of tip). its not that heavy i didnt weigh it but I went to a metal sales website and they list the weights of everything (input 6' of 5/8" aluminum and 30" of stainless) and it spits out an approximate weight of 2-2.5 pounds. also its only 5/8" thick so it should be very maneuverable in the water. I know ive seen hybrid spears that are half aluminum/ half carbon fiber but: a) there like 200+ bucks and b) from what i heard they arent very durable but very fast. the ray odor comes with a big thick band so i dont imagine it will be as slow as dan thinks it will be. when my 1 piece gets here ill do a review of it.

Im thinking about getting a kayak to spearfish from and have been looking all over craigslist for ideas. Problem is I dont know which ones are better or worse to use... Im looking for a single person kayak, if anyone has any insight or knows anyone selling please let me know.

    thanks, mike

Now why did you buy that? It's too heavy and slow. It's for like huge grouper in locations where they let you get that close.

    Steven and the gruppa! :thumbsup2:

i hear its a good pole spear, obviously not as good as the guns you guys use but also not nearly as expensive... if i win the lotto or figure out a way to make my bills vanish ill look into a nice gun. my friend uses a 42 special and its alright im more impressed by another guys yellow divers direct pos polespear... also just starting out, if i get alot more into it ill go bigger/better. right now im still working on getting some decent fins and a prescription mask cuz i cant see shit in the water (if i can get close enough to see it im close enough for a polespear hahahaha)

yep thats him, nice meeting you steven. i think im gunna head back there this coming thursday if the weather holds up, should have my new ray odor pole spear by then (crosses fingers). if anybodys interested it would be cool to meet some other guys on here

well hau, at least we both wound up with muttons and macks :)
its true though, we went out to the third and viz was very very limited, it got better as we came back in

did I meet you on the beach at vista around 3-4 pm on thursday???

trying to figure out who it was i talked to all i know was it was a younger skinny guy in yellow kayak?

    hello everyone,
im a long time snorkeler grew up in broward county and key largo, just getting into spearfishing. talked to a guy on the beach today and he recommended i join this site, so here I am. Dont know his name but he was a kayak spearo out of the dania/ ft lauderdale area. anyway thanks for having me.

    Mike

So I got the chance to meet Dan today and check out some of his latest/greatest stuff. He is a great guy and really seems to take pride in the work he does. I got to sit and watch him make/assemble my Speardiver fins - very cool yet somewhat time-consuming process. I also learned some about the speargun band tying/making procedure. I left Spearfishing Store with a new friend , a set of carbon fins, 2 knives (one for me and one for a friend), a fixed mako band, and a helpful review of my homemade polespear. Thanks again Dan for all your time and help. I should get a chance to test out the fins on thursday during my annual family snorkel trip to the keys.

I will try to post before/after pics of my old gear and my new - Dan and I agree its a BIG improvement.
