SO ive been kicking around making my own version of a ray odor spear for some time now, well last week I gave in and ordered the parts I didn't already have. My polespear will consist of 3/4" hollow aluminum tube with 2" of solid aluminum at each end. overall it should weigh 30%-40% less than the ray odor and be stiffer. Also it will have a larger outside diameter making it easier to grasp... initially the plan will be to use the ray odor band and 30" tip for comparison purposes but if I think it can be tweaked/improved then I will proceed to do so. Pics and progress to come later this week.

Ive seen/heard of great whites being caught off the florida keys but never as far north as WPB... my dad said back in high school (he graduated in '79) when he was running dive boats he had a hammerhead swim underneath(perpendicular to the boat) and it stuck out on both sides..... the boat he was running was 15' wide :@

OK so after two days of abuse my grip is already kinda FUBAR. I think a bad combo of wrapping it too loosely, not stretching it enough and not overlapping enough has left me needing to redo it. =( rookie mistake should be cured next time.

mudding is also about skidding and spraying mud and having fun getting dirty Dan...not so much about conquest, more about playing in the mud in my experience
dont forget about girls mud-wrestling its always an added bonus

What size foot/footpocket do you use?
I have a few new and used sets of fins I may want to part with.
As for advice the best starter fin for me is the Cressi 2000 and 3000's. Flat out for a great bang for your buck.
You could find them as low as $100.00before shipping charges+$20.(from a quick google search)size 12 shoe, dont know what exactly that equates to in fins, mine right now are strap fins and I wear booties.

no im rigging a strap so i can get snatched because the frame of the truck is sitting on the mud and the tires had dug out underneath themselves. took about 5 minutes to get me out of that one, ive been through worse (water over the hood) and gotten stuck in less
seeing what you can make it through is for bragging etc, the guys In the pick use fords or dodges or jeeps, so i have to prove a chevys worth (ive pulled all of them out and theyve pulled me out) we go out camping, hiking, partying, picnicing in remote areas just to get away from the people and the crowds. if you look in the bed of the truck you can see a weber grill with blue bungie holding it shut.

secondary vehicle I use only for offroad outtings. its a 1992 silverado with a built motor and giant oversized tires, used to be my daily driver back and forth to homestead but got a new(to me) truck and just use the mud truck for fun.
thats me stuck up in west palm (couldnt convince my passenger to exit, she didnt want to get "dirty"), for scale thats a 37 inch tall tire.

went out today with my old us divers cheapo split fins and my friend with his mares avanti quattro power (only $100). with him dragging fish and (he says) only about 75% of full speed he was quickly leaving me in his dust.... Sadly I was kicking all out and only dragging a flag. So hopefully in the next week or two Ill get some new fins, I dont have the money for some huge freedive fins and only beach dive so im not worried about racing to the bottom at 50+ feet. Does anyone have other suggestions for fins that are comparable to the mares quattro power in price and/or performance?? id have to say my budget is $150 at most right now with the auto industry being as slow as it is. thanks for your help guys

my parts should be here on monday.... im excited and getting impatient

new grip works awesome but between my ridiculous band pull and somewhat loosely wrapped tape it now has molded fingerprints, kinda makes it even easier to hold. I can now hold onto my cocked spear longer than I can hold my breath (things were the other way around before the tape).

conditions were great today so hopefully they hold up

if you guys have room for one more at the cookout let me know I think im free sunday

IM going out tomorrow morning and hopefully again on sunday.

hmm.. "Judge not, that you be not judged."
I got a honk. Too bad it was from rednecks in a pickup truck who's license plate may have said "deliverance" :@
hey now I own 2 pickups and one is strictly a mud truck.... (although i surely dont have any plates that say deliverance)

mine doesnt blast fish into pieces but the tip goes clear through and they usually get stuck at the end of the spear itself and you have to factor in that my spear is 2.7 lbs
