In key largo its illegal to possess spearfishing gear inside pennekamp park, even if your just passing through on your way out to blue water.

I used to take week long trips mountain biking florida and also up in north carolina, would do 25 mile rides across the levees out through the everglades to keep in shape. Sold my bike a couple months back though due to lack of use... I miss it and need to get back into it.

i hope the weather lays down for you, I was in key largo (i know its far) over the holiday weekend, it was 3-5 and building outside the reef but viz was 50+. hopefully somebody more local can chime in on more up to date conditions. good luck and post your results.

so my old phone crapped out and att had the iphone for 50 bucks so I went for it. I can barely work this thing so far but once I'm comfortable with it I wanted to try to get some useful spearfishing apps, like magic seaweed. Are there any essential or helpful spearo oriented apps out there that you guys would recommend??

Its a big problem down here I know several road bikers that got out of it due to ongoing injuries from being hit. I myself used to be into mt biking and know that without a helmet I would have made more ER trips than I could count. Glad to hear you're OK, get well and be careful!

I think the only poisonous barbs are on the dorsal fin the rest are just for show. They are supposed to be very good eating (similar to hogfish I hear) but I have not tried it personally

I meant whats the difference between the teams in red vs. the teams in blue. I noticed the teams in blue shot far less fish, but are there any other differences in team grouping? IE: are the red teams 2 competitors/team and the blue teams are individuals?

Took the mask out for 2.5 hours today and love it. Certainly no stiffening of the silicone. Only downside I noticed and it wasn't in performance was that when I got to shore my face had been dyed where the skirt touched( ie my entire nose a ring across my cheeks around my eyes and across my forehead). I was a bit frustrated at first but when I got home I washed my face and it was gone. Also, I can not see any lightening of the skirt even though some of the dye was on my skin. Im thinking my 22 hour soak could be to blame for the excess.

hopefully somebody without a cold got out today and enjoyed the great conditions as mush as I did. I had trouble with my head all day but pushed out to about 30' of water. my newly dyed mask is amazing but Ill post about that in the proper thread. I saw tons and tons of fish today, lots of small muttons and hogs. I saw one legal sized hog and muffed the shot. I saw a ~16" strawberry grouper but couldn't remember how big they had to be so we just had a staring contest on the bottom(he won). I saw 3-4 baitballs of pilchards ranging from 50 to what looked like hundreds of fish I was swarmed for 5 or so minutes and couldn't see anything around me a very cool experience. Never saw any predatory fish working them though. I didn't bring any fish home today but did successfully reduce the lionfish population by 1.

Viz: approaching 50' at high tide but dropped with the outgoing tide
Water temp: 78 - a bit cold for rashguard and boardshorts, im guessing the drop was due to the recent storms and west wind
Current: from the south, strong enough to be a nuisance but easy enough to overcome

I have a job interview on the 26th and since im kind of stressed about it being that its a huge career move I decided to take the following week and a half off from my current job. If I get the chance to do any BW trips in that time ill post here number of spaces I have available and it will be a first come first serve basis.
