all my goals will be on polespear(except lobster):

    grouper > 20#
    mackerel > 36"
    hogfish > 10#
mutton - any legal size, those bastards piss me off
    dolphin > the required 20"
    tuna - any size
    triggerfish > 18"
    lobster > 5#

I also like stone shots so I strive for them although they are rare.

That sucks,.... oil starvation puts lack of lube damage into the forefront.:(

    Cheers, Don

That was my first thought too but it runs well and initially the alarm wasn't sounding so im hoping there was oil, also for further testing we ran it off our weed-whacker gas tank which is mixed at 30:1 so it should be good and lubricated now. SO my fingers are crossed.

Mariner, "No big deal. Remove oil tanks, hoses, harness, and disconnect sensor on motor and premix it"

I'm going to look into what the cost of parts will be and from there I will consider whether or not to fix it or just mix into the gas tank. like you said that portion of it is no big deal.

seems the oil pump isn't pumping and the oil pump drive shaft isnt spinning. the worm gear inside the block is spinning but I think its worn down so far (or stripped) and wont turn the shaft. either way when the pump is spun with a drill its not pumping. big bummer :(

When does the alarm come on? Right away or after a few?

The only 2 things that cause an alarm on that motor are temperature or low/no oil. Is the oil tank full? Is it premixed? If premixed, were the sensor wires disconnected?

Oil tanks are both full, a line off the oil reservoir runs into what looks like a flow control valve and then from there to a Y where the fuel/oil mix. I talked to a retired OMC mechanic today (hes a neighbor) and he said that the oil valve will get all gummed up if it sits. Seeing as how this thing sat for almost 2 years that makes sense to me. I'm going to try to pull that thing apart and clean it out tomorrow AM before work. On another note, the oil reservoir on the engine has a cap with wires running into it and a float inside. we played with that a little to see if it was that (Because I don't know where the sensor is for the alarm) and moving the float around makes no difference. I expected to pull the cap out so the float was all the way at the bottom of its travel (indicating low oil in a running environment) and the alarm would sound. BUT I expected to be able to slide the float up to the top of its travel and the alarm would go off. This however didn't work so I don't know if it's a bad cap or if the sensor is located somewhere else.

OK so im listening to the song again because i cant help but laugh..... BUT on a more serious note I replaced to impeller, water pump housing, base plate, and gutted the thermostats. Bought gear oil but haven't changed it yet. I had to replace a fuel line because it was leaking, and cleaned the carbs because they were a bit fouled up and one was spewing fuel. Everything seems to be in proper working order and it cranks right up and runs, the only thing now is there is an alarm that goes off that we haven't figured out yet. It got dark tonight so troubleshooting will continue at a later date... please stay tuned

Steven, didnt mean to hijack your thread with my own input just wanted to put the info out there in case anyone in the north broward area was considering it. But yeah I'd say it was the recent storms more-so than the port.

I've seen a lot of tail-less stingrays lately and saw a turtle today with only three flippers, I tried to take a closer look at him but he was still able to out-swim me. Pretty remarkable that their systems can handle such trauma without getting infection or even slowing them down to the point where they starve or get eaten - fascinating to me, we as humans are so fragile compared to them.

I went out as far as 40' today (longass swim from the beach) and I could barely see the bottom, so turned and headed toward shore, water was a milky green, so I tried to stay inside 30' where I could distinguish stuff on the bottom. current and waves were non existent up this way, but water quality was still shit.

Heres my follow up on this self amalgamating tape, I either suck at it or its just not strong enough for my band. on my odor I wrapped it and then used heatshrink tubing over the ends to seal it from peeling. well its kind of working but probably wont take more than a dozen trips worth of abuse. On my homemade I just wrapped tape and it peeled back into a big wad. Soooooo, I just ordered some MILSPEC 3:1 heat shrink tubing that has the adhesive layer inside. I'm hoping that this stuff will stick to the pole and still have the grippy rubber feel without all of the peeling/sliding.
