BTW, my dive buddy bought Dan's knife, and i really like it. Being serrated on both sides is nice because i would only use the edge of the knife in case i need to cut rope or line in an emergency, and the tip for braining fish. If i lose my Omer, im calling Dan.

My diving knife is an Omer Laser, which is very similar to the Wenoka squeeze lock knife. I like it because it is low profile, locks very good and is very easy to pull out.

Out of the water, I am an SOG whore.

    From the top
SOG Tigershark - 14" overall, it was a great X-mas present.
SOG Seal Pup - Smaller version of the Seal knife, great overall knife.
SOG Field Pup - Great knife under $40, very sharp, comfortable handle. I carry it while hunting.

    Keep them coming!

If you look at the products they sell for swimmers like Ear-dry, etc, the active ingredient, like 98% is alcohol. A little tiny bottle is like 5 bucks, a rip off. I buy a big bottle of isopropyl alcohol 91%, for like 2 bucks at CVS and it last me like a whole year. Tilt my head, twist the cap half way, squeeze the bottle to get a small drip to fill up my ear canal for like 15 seconds and let it out. Repeat on the other side. Be careful though, it can make you dizzy as hell sometimes, the room will spin, but it wont last too long. If you can manage to get the alcohol close to body temperature, you wont get dizzy. I heard of someone using a syringe, filling it up with alcohol and run it under hot water in the sink to get it a bit warm... I tried it once and it worked, but its too much work for me so i just deal with it, it only lasts a minute or two. Alcohol dries relatively fast so it helps keep your ears dry.

I know that this might be a late reaction to Dan's post yesterday, but i just wanted to say that i had to sit here and endure the page for an uncomfortable amount of time. To make it worse, i had a million tabs open along with it, so killing the task meant losing all the pages, and im also using linux, so it wasnt as easy as hitting ctrl-alt-delete. I ended up shutting down the laptop altogether. Very funny though, now i have something to forward to a few people around the office, sit back and listen to the screaming.

As far as the curse words, im ok with or without.

I had an Omer Alien, too small for my face.
I bought an aqua mantis, frame is a bit too bulky for my taste and its my backup mask.
I ended up keeping a cheap $25 mask, i think its a seadive. Fits me perfect and is very comfortable.

I saw one at the expo that bleutec had on display, went to buy it and he said to wait till the end of the show. He forgot i had spoken for it and sold it. The mask was very low volume and frameless, i really wanted to try it out. I found it on ebay, so i might try it soon. This is what it looks like and it costs less than $30 shipped.

On that same note, perhaps this is not what you have, but it can help anyone. Since mid last year i have been getting sick pretty often, about 8-9 throat infections till now. They have all been the same, starts with sinuses, then throat, then lungs. ENT says one more time and my tonsils / adenoids are out (i hope so). I went to my general doctor and like on the 3rd infection i had, he recommended to try out a nasal rinse called "Neilmed". This thing works! You have to see the junk that comes out from your nose, even if you are not sick. It reduces the amount of time im sick too, i swear by it now. Recently i heard of someone using it the night before he spearfishes and in the morning before leaving the house.

So you have an idea, this is exactly what i have, its about $12 at CVS and it brings 100 of the packets along with the bottle.

Hey folks, some of you might recognize my SN from other places. My name is Carlos, and im from Miami. I have been spearfishing for about 6 years now, although i have been away from the water for close to 2 years now. School, work travel, getting married, next thing you know, i haven't held my breath way too long. Anyway, im back, and planning our first dive trip next weekend. After getting back in the rhythm of things, catching up with the new things, reading, etc. i noticed that on the forums i knew about, the Miamians dissapeared.

I was looking up the "Marea" fins i bought from Dan (Pargo) a while back and a couple of google searches later, i found this site. Im glad to find that at last he is in a forum he probably wont get kicked from, and he is accompanied by the rest of the south florida crew, along with spearos from all over. Awesome! Im glad to have found a place with good local reports, an r rated bikini thread, and please tell me you do more spearing than posting on a religion / politics section.

Looking forward to posting my own reports and passing on the little info i know for the better of our sport.
