    Hello.

    I have an old Omer MB30 & Master 96 that are 2 of my all time favorite spear guns. My question is;

Does anyone know if there is a euro band adapter for guns with 20mm thread? I would like to tie my own bands.

    Thanks in advance,

    Keith

Were those red snapper I saw in the video? He passed them up to shoot a cuda???

    Excellent observation Diesel!

our government has decided that since the snapper are so numerous, we need to close the season on them.

Still like barbecued Cuda with lemon pepper though.

Me, Ced, and my new friend Palao with a number of fish that we got today. Visibility was terrible, and the water was full of jellyfish. Much different from last week when I was spearing in 30ft vis on the same rigs. Everyone did good to kill fish in these conditions. Cooked some of them at my place and had a great visit with Palao and his wife. We turned bad conditions into a good fish dinner, and had some to put in the freezer.

I own one, my son spears with it sometimes. Its 30 years old. It has killed amberjack, grouper, snapper, and jewfish. It has 2 bands and a 5/16 shaft. It still shoots, but it is mostly sentimental value now. Buy it, it will kill fish. I am a firm believer that the person holding the gun is more important than the gun for the most part. Hell, when I first started, a pole spear was all I had. When I could afford a speargun, ( rene cavalero) I thought I had died and gone to heaven. You can get other guns after diving some and finding what you like. I personally like the rear handle arbaletes like Picasso and Rob Allen. I also own custom CO2 and wood guns, but the fish that I shoot with them are just as dead as the ones that I shot with the pole spears and mini magnums years ago.

Depends on what you deem as close. Not going to see much closer than 3 miles or so. By that I mean you will not be able to see. Plenty of fish there, but the visibility is usually 3 ft or so. Rare occasions that it will be better, but that is the exception, not the norm. Other than that, any gas well or public spot will hold fish.

Hey! I'm a 50 years old pop belly! And I don't spearfish on scuba.

    I'm with you Marco!

I am a 52 year old "pop belly" also, and I don't need no scuba.

Really like your videos, and cooked the jack crevalle as you suggested. Really good!

I went back to the same well today, got these mackerel and 1 Cuda. Scared the crap out of a scuba diver, he dove the spot after I got there. I was laying on the bottom in 50ft., he swam over me. I didn't want him to spear me, so I grabbed his arm when he passed over me. I was under a cross member , so he didn't see me until I touched him. He screamed under water and left. He had one of those go pro cameras on his head.

Bet I will wind up on u tube.

" he who dies with the most toys is still dead"
experiences are the only thing that matter.

He is definitely the real deal.

Not many freedivers here in the Northern gulf, so it was a pleasure to dive with another one. Those were not great spots, close to shore, strong current, bad vis, and a little sharkey. The entire time in the water may have been 3 hours due to the weather.

    Still a good time.

Took a friend from France to the close rigs a couple of weeks ago. Was his first time diving the Gulf.

He had the Go pro, and made the video. I think he did a great job to shoot those fish in all of that bad vis and current for his first time on the rigs. He is the first real fish killer that I have had on my boat in a long time (besides myself of course). It was stormy so we stayed in close. Next time we will go farther out to some better spots.

Anyway, here's a link to the video (love the choice of theme music)

The recoil is the less of my concerns, cause I am used to much bigger guns, but I wasn´t able to hit anything with it, until I got rid of the band. Maybe I gotta get used to it as you said, cause a lot of people is using the two bands configuration with no problems.

I liked the one band configuration though, maybe I will get a bigger single band to get the best of both things power and easy loading.

Thanks Juddah, Marco ,Dan, George and Mighty kc. I will update my next config findings soon.

I am 100% with you with the single 20mm band. I could kill many more snapper or mackerel with this set up when they were schooling up around the rigs, as opposed to my buddies with the multi band Wood guns. Would still be using single band if my shoulder would allow. Loading the single 20mm is a job for me anymore, so I reluctantly went to 2 - 16mm bands. I seen an old picture of a south African diver with a huge marlin, much larger than anything we would shoot here in the States, killed with a single band Roballen speargun.

I shoot the same gun, same set up. Never noticed the recoil, but I have shot Arbalete style guns all of my life. No problems with accuracy either, unless a shaft is bent or flopper is stuck. A friend of mine asked for my gun in the water once for a kill shot, she shot it and came up saying that it hurt her hand. The recoil had messed up her thumb, and she had to go to the clinic. I shoot a 7.5mm shaft, and some pretty tight 16mm bands.

So with the jig, you don't need a drill press correct?. What about installing the "pins". I assume one side is flattened with a hammer?

sorry for the dumb questions, I am an electrician, not a metal worker.

    Thanks,
    Keith
