I am not keen on their behaviors but I (and think we) have seen them out there several times swimming around. I was shocked that I was able to get close enough to touch them on a few occasions. But I have noticed them doing a lot of chasing or what I am guessing is play behavior on the rocks there. Cool vids bro.

Sounds good man, I should be able to get everything from Dan this weekend. I think having the 2 longer bands would be a good idea as well till I get used to the chest loader; especially with an RA having no butt stock (so to speak) like the ones of yours I have shot. The only place I have found that camo tape through is Omer so I am going to order some of that too. I figure I am going to use that or the Rhino truck bed liner again like on my JBL; but I think the Blue camo looks cool, lol

If you are down we can try to head out this weekend and try to get some fish then cook em up and set the gun up. Shoot me a text and let me know. Cheers

Cool Dan, I will have to get one from you. I also need to get the mono to rig up the shooting lines. I am just off Sunrise in Ft. Laud so if it's cool I can swing by this weekend and pick up a few things.

I came into a RA gun but need a new shaft. The gun is a RA Tuna 120 and I think the shaft is a 7.5mm. Is there anywhere local (Ft. Laud) that sells them or do I need to order it online? Cheers. :thumbsup2:

The Broward chapter of the Surfrider foundation is planning a Lionfish Derby. No dates have been set yet and it is still in the planning stages but I wanted to see if anyone was interested in putting a team together. We'd need to find a boat but I think this would be fun and we can help the reefs. Shoot me a PM or reply if interested. Cheers.

awesome!! i was a little suprised the shot came so quickly in the vid i didnt see it the first time and thought you found a speared fish...and I am an idiot

great shot. i love to be able to hold the spear and gills with the same hand

Ha, I had to go back too and watch for the shot. Well done man; nice kill.

This unfortunate is occurring more and more. Run off from land is causing algae blooms that are leading to toxic and anoxic conditions and causing these mass kills. At low levels some of these algae are actually a nutrient but are limiting in that at higher levels they become toxic or deplete O2 levels below critical states. Between the point and non point sources of pollution we are increasing ocean temps, increasing acidity and lowering O2 levels. I would venture to say you can expect more of these mass die offs and in greater numbers and levels of severity.

the Bubble Butt Barney gunslingers took pride in showing me images of huge bloody rays/skates they hung and weighed, one even had a Mola Mola.:@ It made me want to puke.

DP, but there are abusers on both sides on the coin here. True the scuba diver can get at fish at greater depths and so without that it gives the fish a sanctuary. But in all honesty here, if the average freediver had the capacity to reach the greater depths safely on breath hold I have no doubt they would. The line you draw is not one of moral standing but more of ability and safety. When I dive with any method I stop once I have enough fish for that day or within the next few days (now that I have been at it longer anyway). I know scuba as well as freedivers who take all they can every single dive until they limit out or are done diving and that is just as much of a problem as anything. Doing that is not stewardship but desecration no matter your methods. Now I have lots of scuba friends and myself rarely use it to hunt unless I am going deep or am with a scuba trip (which is rare) and I get in many debates with them regarding some bad practices; but same goes for freedivers. Tanks or no tanks, we are all still humans and subject to the same greedy and selfish impulses.

They are from a different tribe I will never support.

I have to disagree with you here as well and it makes me sad that people feel this way. Perhaps different sects of the same tribe but we should all strive to be stewards of the ocean and promote conservation as a single family of spearos. I don't like seeing guys in 30' with tanks on as that seems cheap I agree; but to each his own. On top of that all the regulations passed affect us all as a group so it seems we would be more effective acting as one and not dividing ourselves. I would be happy to share a dive and meal with any fellow spearo. Peace brothers.

These are just my views and opinions and are not meant to piss anyone off but it is how I feel. I love freediving but respect everyone as equals; as it should be.

I am 95% freediver when spearing but am not going to drop to 120fsw and tag a big AJ on a breath hold. I have been taken for dangerous rides on SCUBA to know better. I look at it like different tools in a toolbox type thing. SCUBA is just my big tool for the big jobs. It's all a bunch of BS in my opinion. Only thing I don't like is hookah and spearing; not sure if that is even legal but I have seen it. We are all doing the same thing; you want fare put a knife in your teeth, leave the long blades and weights at home and go to town. In reality spearing is no more fare than hunting with a rifle and scope but hey; it's what we do. But that is just my opinion, I could be wrong. Cheers!

Sounds good, do you have a kayak yourself? I am saving up for a kaya but I currently only have a boogie board float rig. Its got a good flag on it but weekend boaters are a scary bunch which is why I currently try to sneak out to the more active spots on nice weekday mornings. Where do you usually dive? I find myself at the commercial buoys alot, but have been recently looking for new/other spots and planning to try visiting the aerojacks .75mi off of 17th soon. Although current, tide, boats and brown water is a factor.

Yea, I have a yak as well as a boogie board and lifeguard float rig so with one of the three I can do whatever kind of diving. I can always bring the yak (bright yellow) as a marker/mothership. The boaters are a bunch of idiots for sure. I have never hit the commercial buoys; I typically go around Sunrise and A1A .
