For a boat ride and some time on the water, im willing to give up a few secrets;). Anytime. We are certainly blessed.
There is really no substitute for time spent waking up early and gearing up for what you are targeting.

It works. Trust me. The key is the downward pressure on the eye while pulling. Shot of lidocaine helps

Thanks! The mutt was every bit of 14ish.
While on the mend from surgery(1 year:() my only solace was tweaking the Comets trolling tactics to something very workable and productive for us, and the oddly successful shore dive.
As always 16 foot craft present unique challanges whilst attempting to get offshore with all the gear to chase the fish and be safe. (maybe for another post)We were at the end of a good day, when we decided to try dragging some rapalas for a final 15 mins, the gear was somewhat messy at that point. We decided to call it. When bringing the last plug out of the water, it spun aroun the rod tip a couple of turns.
Instead of unwinding manually, I decided to fling it lightly and try to use the momentum to unwind it, I realized how stupid this was as it left my hand. I tried to quickly withdraw it from the danger zone and was caught as it came back around, actually drinving it in as i pulled away. Lessons ls learned. Fear the plugs even more now.It went in past the barb but did not exit or strike bone.
The fun part was taking the hook off the split ring so the it wouldn't have the plug and additional Hook dangling, while at sea.
We then had to, drive back across the bay, to the ramp, trailer the boat, go home drop off, clean fish. Then go to er.
I thought for sure they would need to cut to get the barb out.
The doc walks in and says: "No problem, I dated a dock that did his residency in key west and had to do 10 of these a day".
She did this trick, not sure what its called but was very slick. Wrapped a string on the shanks of the hook near a the bend, had a nurse push on the eye as she pulled( face shields on, of course) one strong tug and it poped right out, with the barb in the same hole it made, on the way in. Leaving only a small round hole. Very slick. Was very impressed
Learning that was worth the price of admission.
The pic of emils king is from before the repower but one of my favs. Best day ever.

Hi yall:)! Hope you guys are hanging in there
Last year has been tough, knee surgery and a new baby, and at least 12 dives scrubed due to bad weather, and even more to work, including a few once in a life time chances. It has all kept me out of the water more than i would have liked.
Since then, I finally ditched my blackberry, I wana try to see if this new phone can simplify posting up reports for me, if i ever manage to make it out. Till then enjoy! -

The Shaft was great, all its advertised to be, found myself glad for the rest tab
Snipped a few Mackerel, yj, grovers and macks, with it
Till I shoot a permit near 80ft and he went Bananas and wrapped on the structure and cut my mono, purely operator error.
To be Fair These fish were Taken over 3 days, minus a few we had for dinner. We spent most of the time just hanging out and enjoying the time together in the keys.
I had to include the one of me with rolos fish, what fishing story ins't complete without some subterfuge.
I put two guns out of action for the day with no permiso to show for the trip, so figure i'd at least capture the memory, to keep me going till next year -
We only dove till we had a few nice fish, then called it a day, we had to work them none the less...
Was nice to have plenty of time for the ladies
We battled sharks, thunderstorms, drunken idiots, and still found what we went for:grimreeper::bottomup::bottomup:
THANKS GUYS!!!!
Till next year
Im sure the guys will chime in with more details..

Somewhere beyond the mainland;), a diverse band of mistfits gathered to try and uncover,
the truth behind the legend of the fabled Bucketone,
Although we searched high and low the helmeted superhero was nowhere to be found,
Every night we would strategize in vain on new ways to track the elusive master huncher....Seriously we had a blast, Mr Zacker if you read this, that video is seriously one of the funniest things I have ever seen, the guys and I were in stiches all weekend.....
I hope you see it for what it truly is, flattery, the caracter is so far from realty yet so emo;) its halarious,
The crew consisted of:
Bok choy
Spade fish
rolo
geronimo
myselfWe were blessed by great weather..
Each day, we called it quits with just a few fish aboard, the best kind of fishing, no need to get greedy or push it past being fun.
Enjoy the pics
Im sure the other will chime in with other details... -
How about the shear amount of plastic in the ocean,
Seems like every single beach no matter how remote is now littered with gatorade bottles, quarts of oil, sandals, toothbrushes, plastic caps, etc....
Much more so than before.... say 6 , 7 years ago
It is sickening to image the lack of education it takes for a fisherman to fill their boat with oil and then simply toss the quart over the side...
Maybe more recycling plants in more locations? who knows?? it sure is a dam shame
On a side note, I actually read of guys over on spearboard talking about how they learned to provide by reading the internet, and presumably going out and cashing in on the bounty of the ocean...
I have also heard of commercial fishermen going out and taking 70 gags of off one spot, I m ok with subsistance fishing, as well as doing it for a living, but i think it only really has a place for those who have only known that for an entire lifetime.. For someone to sudenly decide they are commercial diver and that the ocean now has to not only provide for them, but also pay child support and credit card debt, is at the heart of Gerald's question...
The more we can Ban together as the recreational sector and educate the public that the ocean is not endless it cant withstand ton takers and greedy special interest, the better..

Nice fish, guys !!
Heres a golden travally in the high 20's
I was super stoked with this fish

As promised.
I love my C90's
Keeping the thread Alive. The airline forgot my polespears in fll
was rough anyhow -
It reffers to the angle at which the facet of the tri cut are in relation to each other, the faces of the hollow grind concave inward somewhat, giving the leading edge better cutting potential than both faces being flat, not sure if that makes sense... It makes for a much sharper edge as the angle of the cutting surface is made narrower by the grinding out of the material between the edges, it cuts more like a broadhead on an arrow than just a a pointy triangle.... The grind is indeed hollow, but not to the extreme just enough so that it doesn't affect durability
Hope it helps

NICE!!!!
