Thanks for the reply, Don. I'm thinking that they'll be useful for my upcoming trips to Costa Rica and La Paz. When you used to have the flasher tied to your float, did you have a problem with it tangling with the float line?

I've never used a flasher before and I'm about to buy some. I searched and found a few good threads about making flashers, but I have another question. When diving from a boat, where do you typically attach your flashers? Your primary float (if using a float/floatline setup)? A second float that drifts? A second float that's tied to the boat? The boat itself? Thanks.

I just got back from Tobago a couple of weeks ago. By most accounts, in T&T there are few, if any regulations surrounding spearfishing, so there are no permit or licensing requirements, as far as I know. I didn't stay in Trinidad at all, but the flight to Tobago from Trinidad takes 25 minutes and costs $24 each way (I'm not kidding). There are spearos in Trinidad, but as I understand it, the visibility is much better in Tobago, and so it's the preferred destination for traveling spearos. Good luck and have fun.

I'm planning a trip for April/May and am strongly considering Costa Rica. I've been to the Guanacaste area before, but not to spear. We'll probably fly into Liberia and be based in that area again. I've done a bunch of searches for spearfishing in CR, and the name that keeps coming up is Agua Azul. That outfit looks perfect, except that there's a very good chance that I'll be the only spearo on the trip, which would make a multiple-day spearfishing excursion a pretty expensive affair. It's still an option for a day or so, but I'm wondering if there is a lower-cost alternative other than shore diving.

I'd also appreciate any recommendations on a specific area to stay in, such as Playa Hermosa, Playa del Coco, etc. We'd like to be within a reasonable distance to Tamarindo. The last time we were there we stayed in Ocotal. Thanks.

Edit: Just realized there is a Central America section. Oops.

That makes sense that was one of the 4-5 that were. Mailed over that Josh sent out while he was waiting for his stock to arive via freight one of his guys must have rigged that one

I'm not sure I understand exactly what this means. Can you clarify? Thanks.

Marco - that looks interesting. I think I've seen it somewhere before, but I don't remember where. What knot are you using to make that loop, and what knot are you using to tie the wishbone to the loop? Thanks.

That's what I was wondering. I haven't tried loading it, but just from playing around with it, it looks like the "free" wishbone would probably get hung up on the pin a lot, which might damage it. Yep, I'll be changing it. Thanks.

I guess I'm changing the setup before I leave, or once I get there. This will be my first time doing this, so it should be interesting. Thanks for the advice. And thanks, Dan for shipping the stuff to me quickly.

I don't see a point to the double wishbone. You always want to be checking the condition of the wishbone anyways not relying on the second wishbone being there for you if the first one fails.

So is the point of this setup to only use one wishbone cord, with the other free in case one fails?

I just received my new gun a couple of days ago. I was supposed to get shark fin tabbed shafts, but instead got pinned RA shafts, which require a thinner wishbone. At this point I don't have time to swap them out before I leave for my trip, so I'll have to use them.

The wishbone cords on the bands on the gun are doubled up, as you can see in the pic below, which doesn't seem to work well with these pins. I haven't tried loading the gun yet, but I can tell that I would be able to get one cord on the tab. But it looks like both cords would be tricky, as one cord would either sit behind the other, as opposed to being on the pin, or would get poked by the pin, if you know what I mean. Do you think this will be an issue? It looks like this would work better with a single cord, but I'm guessing it'll be tricky to try to make sure only one cord is sitting in the tab, with the other free.

I've tried contacting the distributor about it, but haven't heard back. Any advice would be appreciated.

You probably wouldn't go wrong with either one, but I only have experience with PFI. I took the intermediate course and would HIGHLY recommend them. Ted and Erin are excellent instructors and they really seem to go out of their way to make sure you get the most out of the experience. They present the material in a really interesting and fun format. I think you'll be amazed with what you're capable of on the first day. Robert and Jake came out from the west coast to assist during my course. They were excellent instructors and very cool guys.

Have fun with whichever course you choose.

If the machine is going to be under heavy load maybe. My experience has been that a brand new computer is very fast and you wont notice a big difference unless your doubling the ram. I would say its probably better to hold off and save the 100-200 difference in the RAM and wait 6-12 months. If you still think you need a RAM upgrade at that time then go ahead and do it the chips will probably bee nearly half the price if not less. There are also random dips in the price of RAM that will occur in that time and you will be able to save a lot of money. 4 GB should be enough.

Excellent advice. Thanks. Who knew I'd get computer help on a spearfishing forum :D
