Hi there - I am new to this site but a very keen spearo of many years.
Going to Bali later this year and I was wondering about taking my speargun through Bali customs. Ihave heard yes and also no. I was planning to disassemble it and take the shaft, dive knife etc. Going to the east coast to have a look around. Any info would be appreciated

Thanks. So much conflicting info. Have been on to indonesian consulate with no concrete details. Many divers must take a speargun as there is many dive spearfishing charters advertising for crew.
contact Jon @ sunmonkeys@aol.com he can provide you with current info and cautions. It has been over 10 years since I did it - I was traveling under a diplomatic passport and had zero issues in Bali.
Word of caution (seriously). Do NOT route through Singapore, unless things have changed a lot - Singapore could take your speargun even on a transit. I was living there under diplomatic cover (U.S. Embassy) but had major issues getting my spearguns in and out even though they were "registered".

Funny that the offspring of a Penal colony would take the name Seppo as a screen name. Mate. There's been some controversy. Earlier this year I ran into Cameron K at the supermarket and he mentioned that Indonesian Customs had started confiscating Spearguns. But the latest I heard was that Andre The Man Wicaksana went down to the Customs office. (A place he and I have spent a fair amount of time in) and they said no problem. The Best is to contact Wayne at Andre Australia or Andre himself 08123811414 (in Indo) and ask him. Go check out his shop when you are there as well. Tell him Big Kleng sent you. To answer otherwise is only to the best of my knowledge, which is that it is okay to bring Spearguns into Bali. Do not take them apart.. then they look like parts for a gun. which can be a firearm. Don't fly through Singapore or Hong Kong.
