another intro!

  • Hey guys/gals?, new to the board, just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Southern California and have been diving most of my life, but taking spearfishing seriously only the last 6 years or so. Unfortunately, it's become a bit obsessive and has pretty much squashed all my other recreational sports. I've got it pretty bad. Mostly I dive my local spots close to my house, some of the local islands here, and some Baja over the course of the year.

Fortunately, I've had some decent mentorship and have progressed some in the last few years. I hope to learn a bit more here and contribute when I can.

Hope everyone is having a great year so far and thanks in advance for the wisdom!!

  • Welcome to the forum.

I hear what you say about squashing all other recreational sports and activities. There are also many other things on the periphery of spearfishing that can keep you very busy like gear, boat etc.

  • Welcome mate, the guy's here are very good speros and we're like a group of brothers. What town are you near?

  • Cool, that's a good spot. I'll be up there next week testing some new Carbon fins Dan has.

  • Any fish left at whites point? used to be great spearfishing in the late 70s. red abs everywhere.allot of kelp bass and sheepshead.

Ha, ha, Whites can be OK. You'd be hard pressed to find any abs around though. Generally it's dirty and can be fishy at times, but all the kelp got wiped out this year due to the big swells last winter. Pretty much most of the kelp under 20' of water got washed out this winter on most of the hill here. It's coming back, but definately a bit of a different ballgame this year.
