• hit it for the nice slack low tide. vis was pretty crappy. maybe 8 ft. on my way out to the zone i saw 2 shorts .... really short. if there was a big fish around it would've ate those things. anyway, once out to the zone the tide started to fill in. i spooked a fish not too far below the surface. the viz was so bad, all i saw was something long and silver swimming away. i tried to drop and give chase to no avail. i swam outside for a bit and swam around in the slight current. no action. good bait tho -- lots of spanish. i circled back to near my earlier sighting. i made a drop and up in the canopy was the telltale outline of a seabass. the fish caught notice of me and tried to sink out. i followed it and it started to disappear! one kick and a long shot -- did i hit it? reel line starts going out ... yes, i did. i put the brakes on this one and it circled and ended up tying up just below me. ditch the gun with the crater float attached. knife to the dome and i pulled that fish up. my smallest fish of the season, a whopping 34 inches. im still pumped .... i havent shot one for a while now. sorry, no photo.

The fish looks much bigger in your avatar;) I was in the in the area yesterday, till 4.30 did not see as much as you did, just the bait. Bands of red tide came in and it was a long swim out to the boat. I actually blew chunks when I climbed back on the skiff for the second time in 30 years.:@ The GF's massive green pepper. onion and very hot Cajun spice omelet at O-Dark thirty looked like a shimmering mosaic behind the stern. But my new friends had a great laugh.:laughing3::laughing3: Sorry no photo.

    Cheers, Don

    Don,
I saw you guys out there. The red tide bands were very visible from atop the bluff. Did not see your chum line.

  • 34"er sounds like it was a solid 14-16 lber! That's my favorite size fish for eating:toast:

Big enough to feed a few people with fresh fillets and not having to freeze anything:thumbsup2:

  • I dove the sea sick murk til sunset last night. Found about 10-20 feet of vis on the bottom at 30ft. It was dark. No wsb, no croaking , no bait and no other divers.

  • Haha, Don I thought you didn't want that kind of info to get out? In all fairness it was a real bad cross swell, I almost got sick too. BTW it was a pleasure having you on the boat, you are a true waterman and innovator to this sport as well as a wealth of spearfishing knowledge. And I don't know when the last time i got Hurling footage in High Definition, that alone is priceless ;)

Good diving with you, let's do it again soon but hopefully with better conditions.
