Laguna Conditions

  • South Laguna was diveable. . . I wasn't feeling the swim out to the farther reefs, and the boiler rocks weren't holding, so I got out and moved North.

    Visibility: 10-15'
Swell: Not over 2', but a lot of water was moving underneath.
Surprisingly little life out there, probably because the water is COLD.

Central Laguna was super easy diving, and I kicked to the outer reefs, but the super green, cold water on the bottom wasn't giving me much of a break as hunting goes. Saw a few decent fish, but not as many as usual.

    Visibility: 8-10'
Swell: 1', not as surgy as South Laguna
I thought it was interesting to hit two thermoclines before 40', with anything below 30' holding super thick, green, cold water.

Northern Laguna was pretty typical. . . for early Spring or late Fall.

    Visibility: 15-20'
Swell: 2', Some surge, but not as bad as South Laguna.
Warmer water here, and more life, but same green haze on the bottom.

  • what's up with the water temp. this year? It's supposed to be El Nino and it's cold and dreary! I have a hard time getting inspired but am going to try out my new 5mm next week after I get over this crummy cold.

I copy and pasted this report I edited from another place and post it here as a example of .....
How not to ever get on a local's boat.;);)

Also remember to put specifics, if any in the second post of a new thread on location or fish seen.
Boat traffic and diver safety are my main concerns on the few local spots we have left after the MPLA process. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

    All the best, Don

  • I thought the same, don't know what that guy was thinking... When one guy blows up a spot like that we all end up dodging pissed off hook and line guys for the next week :(
