  • OK so im listening to the song again because i cant help but laugh..... BUT on a more serious note I replaced to impeller, water pump housing, base plate, and gutted the thermostats. Bought gear oil but haven't changed it yet. I had to replace a fuel line because it was leaking, and cleaned the carbs because they were a bit fouled up and one was spewing fuel. Everything seems to be in proper working order and it cranks right up and runs, the only thing now is there is an alarm that goes off that we haven't figured out yet. It got dark tonight so troubleshooting will continue at a later date... please stay tuned

  • When does the alarm come on? Right away or after a few?

The only 2 things that cause an alarm on that motor are temperature or low/no oil. Is the oil tank full? Is it premixed? If premixed, were the sensor wires disconnected?

Oil tanks are both full, a line off the oil reservoir runs into what looks like a flow control valve and then from there to a Y where the fuel/oil mix. I talked to a retired OMC mechanic today (hes a neighbor) and he said that the oil valve will get all gummed up if it sits. Seeing as how this thing sat for almost 2 years that makes sense to me. I'm going to try to pull that thing apart and clean it out tomorrow AM before work. On another note, the oil reservoir on the engine has a cap with wires running into it and a float inside. we played with that a little to see if it was that (Because I don't know where the sensor is for the alarm) and moving the float around makes no difference. I expected to pull the cap out so the float was all the way at the bottom of its travel (indicating low oil in a running environment) and the alarm would sound. BUT I expected to be able to slide the float up to the top of its travel and the alarm would go off. This however didn't work so I don't know if it's a bad cap or if the sensor is located somewhere else.

  • seems the oil pump isn't pumping and the oil pump drive shaft isnt spinning. the worm gear inside the block is spinning but I think its worn down so far (or stripped) and wont turn the shaft. either way when the pump is spun with a drill its not pumping. big bummer :(

That sucks,.... oil starvation puts lack of lube damage into the forefront.:(

No big deal. Remove oil tanks, hoses, harness, and disconnect sensor on motor and premix it:toast:

That was my first thought too but it runs well and initially the alarm wasn't sounding so im hoping there was oil, also for further testing we ran it off our weed-whacker gas tank which is mixed at 30:1 so it should be good and lubricated now. SO my fingers are crossed.

I'm going to look into what the cost of parts will be and from there I will consider whether or not to fix it or just mix into the gas tank. like you said that portion of it is no big deal.

  • It's gonna be cheaper to buy the block off plate and premix it... by ALOT. Not to mention peace of mind with one less thing to go wrong and you know it's always getting oil.

  • I just saw this and thought it might be appropriate.:D

    His and hers diary:

    Her Diary:

Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at A nice restaurant for dinner. I was shopping with my friends all day long, So I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no Comment on it. Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go Somewhere quiet so we could talk.

He agreed, but he didn't say much. I asked Him what was wrong; He said, 'Nothing.'

I asked him if it was my fault that He was upset. He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, And not to worry about it.

On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He Smiled slightly, and kept driving.

I can't explain his behavior I don't know Why he didn't say, 'I love you, too.'

When we got home, I felt as if I had Lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore.

He just Sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued to seem distant and absent.

Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 Minutes later, he came to bed. To my surprise, he responded to my caress, And we made love. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts Were somewhere else.

He fell asleep - I cried. I don't know what to do. I'm Almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

His Diary: Boat wouldn't start today and can't figure out why, but at least I got laid.
