Anthopisces is glad to meet you

  • Hi Folks, I live in Palm Beach County Florida. I just completed the Freedive Level 1 course, although I have been freediving for many years. I hunt at about 60 feet but now I am ready to hunt deeper. I am interested in maximizing diving as well as gun safety, scoring a lot of great fish, and making good friends.

I'm 48 and in pretty decent shape. I'm just now becoming serious enough about freediving to learn the technical and safety aspects.

I've been hunting with a float line for years now. Now I'm focusing on safety (I've done way too much hunting alone.) and the float line seems like a conundrum; it marks your location for safety, but it prevents multiple divers from being close together, which is even worse for safety. I may switch back to a reel.

I have two Rob Allen 1300s. I'm looking forward to doing more hunting out in the blue water.

I own a 20 Cape Horn with a 150 Yamaha. I'll be glad to be diving with some of you soon. PM me and we can start a dialoge that may lead to friendship and speared fish!

  • Welcome anthopisces, welcome to the forum. I have dove with a flag and float 90% of the time in blue water while another diver is in the water. After a while you learn how not to wrap each other.
I put safety over tangles but I sin in other ways as a spero sometimes.

    Cheers, Don Paul

  • Welcome to the forum.

If everyone would spool the length of the float line that's not being used and coil the rest between dives as is proper procedure, and use streamlined float line/float systems, there wouldn't be any tangles with other divers.
