• Went night diving and found some good butts. Mikey P and I went for a shore dive and in the first five minuted Mike's gun goes off and I cruise over and he says, "wow, that was easy". This was his first butt. I was stoked for him and turned around and kicked twice to see my first of the night. I pulled the trigger and instantly had a twitching hali stoned on the sand. One on the stringer for me and Mike continued to kill some nice fish. He ended up with 3 fish and 2 were 15lbs I'd guess. Mine was just 28 inches and the hali nube showed me how it's done. Way to pop his cherry! Another little confidence booster for the skeptics.

  • Nice haul man, halibut are a fun fish to shoot. Took my little brother on his first beach dive the other day and he said he saw a "puffer fish" that looked just like a football that was about the size of his arm. He was afraid to shoot it because he was afraid of the spines. :laughing3::thumbsup2:

  • Hey....stay out of back bay.;)

Just kidding nice meat haul:thumbsup2: I see a pole spear in your future.:D

Halibut is one off my favorite fish to eat, as I hardly target them. The meat is a little sweet and very delicious. :thumbsup2:

  • Attan, Halibut is super delicious...a special fish...the ycan get HUGE...like 150+lbs and as big as a man in length, probably some that are bigger than that too.

I think, like any fish, as they get TOO big they lose their meat quality, but they are one of my favorite fish

    i like to spear fish

  • Our Cali butts can get close to 70lbs, the fishing record is close to 59 I believe. The ones in Alaska are a different
    species.

Jay Riffe had a picture years ago with 5 guys that went up there and speared some BARN DOORS in Alaska.
I don't have a copy of it though.

I would love to go up with my boy some day and fish for one, that is a big fish Lunker congrets.

Every time I go out with just a pole spear I don't seen any legal butts.:confused1: I speared on a while back with my old gold JBL polespear, but that was it. I am waiting for the day I come across a BIG one with my pole spear in hand. Im kind of nervous and anxious at the same time. I will be in pursuit for the biguns tomorrow from my boat. Hopefully will get some seabass too:thumbsup2:

    Over seabass hunting....
