    There have been several up-close Great White Shark (GWS) sightings & 2 recent attacks.
    A nice couple that walks that coastline daily told us they've seen seals get thrashed by GWS.

    Kayak - 16' Hobie adventure (red)


    One of the kayak fisherman (from a norcal forum I help moderate) was attacked by a great white shark (GWS). It was one of our group events with maybe 15-20 yakkers out there. Dan (now referred to as "shark man dan") was jolted off his yak as a GWS grabbed his bow and throttled it. After discerning that the kayak was not edible, the GWS sauntered off & Dan quickly returned to shore physically unscathed.

    Kayak - 13' Ocean Kayak Trident (yellow)


    Undeterred by the previous shark attack, many of us continued to fish the same beach. It's geographically close & the fishing is good. A few sightings since, but nothing really sketchy. On this particular day, my buddy Adam was also attacked. Like Dan, Adam's kayak was struck with no warning (sharkweek style) and quickly flipped out of his yak. However, this time, the 15' GWS continued to munch on the bow of his kayak & thrash around. The GWS spun the yak around as Adam clung desperately held on to the upside-down yak by stuffing his fingers in the scupper holes. As the GWS let go of the bow & took interest in his paddle, Adam quickly righted his yak & scrambled onboard. The GWS continued it's "curious tasting", chewing through his paddle leash, taking a bite out of his paddle, & taking a chunk of his bootie (foot was okay). With a couple holes through the hull and the GWS losing interest, Adam quickly hailed the other yak fishermen & made it safely to shore.










    We don't dive this particular area for obvious reasons... but I've thought about it many times. :crazy:
    In general, we know where the majority of the GWS patrol and trry to stay out of the water in those areas.

    This was taken off Catalina by a local diver I believe. They have to eat too.
    That's why I like to drag a hard float off shore, gives you a 50/50 chance to let them test bite while you head for the boat.;)
    The bite wound is on both sides of the seal.

    I wouldn't.... I am more concerned about boats and PWC skippers that don't pay attention.
    Lots of sharks in some places with very few people getting bit or killed. Enjoy our Mother Ocean and let your mind be peaceful, it's a better place.:D

    I just read up on this one, this has been the biggest gws year I've ever experienced, I'm glad that guy didn't get hurt. The worst is I'm pretty sure someone's going to get bit this year.
