I'd like to know what kind of material this is in the pics. The problem is that the flags available commercially are too big. For a flag on my float I want it to have the minimum size required by law which is 12" x 12". The ballast I have on the float will not keep up the bigger flags. It's fairly simple to make a flag. The red material you see in the pics accepts stitching and the white stripe is just oil paint. I'm sure this material is dirt cheap, can anyone identify it?

I have used heavy industrial bags at work that looked to be of a similar material. In those cases, they were a PVC coated polyesther fabric. It's available in several different weights.

Thanks. Is the fabric the loose grid that is visible in the material?

Not quite the same, but similar. The fabric of the bags is a little tighter weave, I think, but you can still see space between the indivual threads.

Looks like it's the stuff used for banners. Do a search for "PVC Banner", or "Banner Material". I didn't find any suppliers in my quick search, but the pictures look like the same stuff.

Right on!! That's what it is, banner material. Should be available from a sign supply shop. You're good Tin Man :thumbsup5:

Make sure the stripe is 3 inches wide :D.

The regulations stipulate:
QuoteThe width of the stripe must be 25 percent of the height of the flag.
Well I'll be darned! At 12" x 12" the stripe must be 3"
