Man that thing was a dinosaur, 90.2 lbs I couldn't imagine trying to fight something that huge on a reel :). Thanks for posting Don!
Great Video. It's particularly nice to catch something that is such good eating. Look at all those good eating fish on the stringer too.
Props to the guy for landing the fish. Was he using a Slip Tip? BUT............................. To any who watch this video.. please do not follow this example of reel/floatline fishing. I was cringing for the entire fight seen. What a cluster~`~`~`~` of lines this guy allows. A 9Olb fish can definitely Drown a diver. How many lines did he have thrown about all over the place? That is NOT how it's done. 5O% of landing a big fish with a reel is making sure that you are clear of all lines and not allowing a Birds Nest. This guy was lucky he didn't get snagged up.
Here's one Kveite my friend Anders got. That's an Ulusub 145cm Gun.. 13Olbs
The Monster........................ was caught by Rod and Reel.. Then Anders did a little R and D on whether he could puncture the Skull, but that's what's out there. 3OOlbs.. no line cluster~`~`~`~`s allowed..
Thanks for the vid Don.
Congrats on a beautiful fish MrNerke.
Loved the footage of the tired diver. It says Norway but they were speaking Russian.
Ogla where are you

Maybe the hali was not his targeted species?

I'll try to get through to him and get the back story.

Cool. I would be interested in reading the report.
I rewatched the video without a screaming baby in my lap, and with sound. Awesome Reel noises.
I think I was stalled loading on a few images which showed lines everywhere this morning, my second viewing didn't seem so harrowing.. Nice fishing.
Here's a link to a story I read on the photos above. Not sure about the propriety of linking a story from a Euro board? Hope it's acceptable. It is a good story.
I agree that it was horrifying to watch. That guy definitely needs to learn some line management skills! Nice fish though...glad it all worked out. I would love to shoot a big halibut iike that.

I invited your friend Anders over here, but I don't think it will get us banned.:D

Pretty heroic catch. Struggling with a California halibut half this size is no picnic.

No Shite, I'd be wearing a cup and the reel would be on my fly rod. If I ever did this in Alaska I'd bring my tuna floats without a doubt.

Great vid. Huge flattie. Damn, almost a hundred pounds.
