Speardiver Pole Spear

  • Dan, have you thought about introducing a line of pole spears to your store? I had a look on your website and you have a section for "polespears and slings" but it doesn't show anything when I click on it. I'm in the market for a decent pole spear and I've noticed so many of them are way over priced.

  • I have a carbon pole spear available but it's been on the back burner. It's very light and very fast, and at the same time has enough weight for good penetration. But after using it I found it can't take punishment if you're shooting fish in rocks and they're going to put leverage on the spear. So for open water it's great, but I'm not convinced it's a great all around spear, and that's why I haven't promoted it. I'll pics when I get a chance and post them here.

If anyone has ideas for a good pole spear I'm open to suggestions. I could easily produce a solid aluminum (one piece or sectional) spear, but IMO those are just too heavy and slow, albeit durable. Carbon is the best material but the connection to the metal shaft is the weak point.

  • I have seem the spear Dan is referring to and as a fairly dedicated polespearer I want one. I agree if you shoot and ulu in his house he will break your spear. So will a grouper. But, but for most spearing it looks awesome. Especially if you added a long shank to give it extra reach

    i like to spear fish

  • Much respect this is why I buy from Dan. He himself says he's not convinced with his product and only wants to provide his customers the best.

You won't hear other companies pointing out their own product weakness.

I don't want to sound like a cronie, but I really am extremely satisfied with not only the quality of the products I've bought from Dan, but most importantly his attention to detail and commitment to his fellow divers.

  • I was checking out the Riffe Carbon Polespear at the LDS and I don't know if I could justify the price tag on it. I've heard reviews on it being fast and light but not many about its durability. How does your carbon polespear compares to the Riffe both performance wise/ price wise? I'm glad you're so critical on your gear. If I invest in a carbon pole spear, I want one that I don't need to worry about breaking.

I think it would be a good idea to have a sectional aluminum pole spear in your line. Maybe even a fixed. I've been doing a lot of research and some one piece aluminum pole spears are almost $200. Are they way overpriced or is it just me? What's your take on this Dan?

  • Solid aluminum is slow and inexpensive (ray odor) I used one for a long time and took fish with it but it takes practice. Aluminum tube polespears are lighter and faster but more flexible and require wrapping the band. I think optimumly an aluminum tube polespear that is carbon sleeved for rigidity could be the best solution although I havent tried it. Dan have tried breaking one of your polespears to see what kind of abuse it can handle? Obviously a longer tip allows more leverage and something like ray odor's 30" flopper might not be a good idea but a 12-16" tip might work suprisingly well.
