Yep, that method is the easiest, just make sure you do it as soon as the hook goes in. The longer you wait, the harder it is to pull out. Once the muscles start to seize up, it sucks.
Edit to be specific, I was referring to the technique where he used the line to quickly pull it out. -
I had to take a hook off from my little son's MOUTH!
I wouldn't use that method.
I just pushed until I could see the barb, cut and easily released it.

The problem is when the bard is deep and no where near exiting. But yes a bolt cutter was my first thought. Till I realized that method wasnt really gona work in my case. Believe me I tried yanking it out and pushing the point out.
Good to be prepared for both i Guess. Must have been nerve racking to have the kid, in that situation. Makes for a good story.
