Winter Crabbing

  • Well we have next to nothing open for spearing right now. So if you want to harvest then Dungeness Crab are about the only option. We had a fun day last Sunday diving for crab. Was able to limit in the cold water. It has dropped to 46 now which makes for some cold toes! Anyways the crab makes it worth the effort.

  • The closures are from mismanagement. Here in Washington we have to co-manage with three groups that all think they deserve the fish. Our Native Americans take half no matter what, the other half is split between commercials and sporties. Unfortunately the sporties are not very well organized so we lose out almost always to commercial interests.

The tribes don't talk to fish and game and so the resource gets managed very badly. End result is short seasons and very little sport harvest in the Puget Sound and not much better out on the Pacific.

    It is all very sad.
