FAD how it works!

That operation looks completely safe. I see no potential for disaster...:@

Having realised that I couldn't have killed Jake or myself when trying to launch our own FAD, by dropping a huge weight over the side and getting tangled, I've come up with a possible better technique.
It would be safer and easier to put a 50 or 100 lb weight, like cement or steel, and let it drop to the bottom with the line. Then, keep sliding more weights down the line. Twenty 100 lb weights if you need them. You could store the weights on the bottom deck of the boat. But that set up int he pic….if you get some choppy water on the way out….and they way that boat listed when they were dumping it.:crazy:

not any problem if you drop first the floating system with rope then the anchor
it needs a lot of soap!!;) -
Nice captures made by my old friend Joe around FAD in winter...
because of the patrolling school you can have an empty daily trip during two weeks then suddenly get the jackpot!;)
he has a weak for bw riffe gun -
Nice Catches!!
I agree. This is how we deploy our water quality buoys and wave buoys. Find your mark, drop the buoy FIRST, drive and let out the mooring line and chain, then when you've circled back to the mark, THEN drop the mooring weight. Very low possiblity of tangles, especially if the mooring line is packed neatly into a basket or in our case 3 x 45 gallon trash cans.
