New to Spearfishing World looking for wetsuit advice

  • Hey everyone
I am new to the site. I live up in Northern California so I spend most of my time in the freezing ocean ab diving and spearfishing. I am looking into getting a new open cell 7mm wet suit so far I have read only good things about the speardiver suits. I am a tall skinny guy so having a tall option is a must for me. Yazbeck, Riffe, and Speardiver all make 7mm suits that would fit my body type the Yabeck and Riffe have titanium lining. Does anyone know if this is work the extra $$?

  • Welcome to the forum Sheldon.

"Titanium lining" is a gimmick hence ladvr's joking reference to a metallic coating. Open cell, a misnomer referring to a raw smooth neoprene wetsuit interior (all wetsuits without exception are made of closed cell neoprene) is the way to go. Speardiver tall and thin open cell wetsuits were specifically designed for tall and thin body types and I've seen them fit many a skinny diver perfectly. Can't say I've ever seen the same in a Riffe or Yazbeck suit. So to answer your question, Speardiver suits fit tall and thin divers better, have nicer camo patterns, are very comfortable and durable, so no, the other wetsuits are not worth the extra $$ nor the same $$.

Speardiver Pacific suit size Medium - Long (M-L). Diver is 6'1" 150lb. Actually since this picture was taken the arms and legs were lengthened even more, so they have full coverage at the wrists and ankles.

  • I'm 6' and 150 pounds. I have a riffe didgitek 5mm and speardiver 3mm suit and they both fit me perfectly. The speardiver is a medium long and the riffe is a medium tall top with medium farmer John bottoms (after giving riffe my measurements this is what they suggested). I've never used a titanium suit is that supposed to go on easier? I remember looking at the riffe cryptic and wondering what the deal was.

  • I had a Ti lined suit (SAS) back when they first hit the water 25 years ago, it was no warmer than other other suit I had had.
