I love boxing, and Cuban amateur boxers are the top of the crop. I am a lifetime fan of Teófilo Stevenson. But i don´t know whats the boxing horizon in Cuba nowadays
What´s the deal with cuban boxers??

Don't know before the revolution but after it was influenced by Russian training methods and style due to the close ties Cuba had with the former USSR.

I love the sweet science, but i like better MMA though. Is a real shame that my ankles don´t stand the leg locks anymore
-
I don't know what you mean? We do leg locks all the time we just know when to tap. I train with ATT and so far all the guys have been very considerate just as I am. Nobody is out to hurt anyone. If I start to work with someone that appears too aggressive I tell them before we start that if they get a leg lock I'll tap right away and to watch out for it. I don't f*ck around trying to escape from leg locks as I've been hurt badly before. The best escape anyways is to not be caught with them in the first place.
I love boxing too but just don't have time for it.

i have osteocondritis in my left ankle due to continous strikes in the area :crazy: that´s why i´m shy to mix it up in MMA. I´m saving my ankles for freediving :;

Grappling is much more easier on the body than striking. For example if I'm injured in a particular area I can ask who I'm working with to not do leg locks at all or not to do it on a particular leg. You can still work with full strength and not worry about injury from your opponent. Injury due to bad movement is another story. In grappling though you can get quite a work out just working from your back.

You know sometimes I like those wired guys too, when I want to challenge myself. Just have to be careful with them and not go too far. They're most often beginners anyways and are more likely to hurt you with spastic movements than with any kind of legit technique, they're also fun to beat and frustrate.

I am training now boxing with José Salas. A pro cuban trainer. It´s amazing how cubans consider boxing so seriously. His technical approach to boxing is delightful. In spite of that boxing is a limited art as a self defense discipline though. A great workout nevertheless

I love being trained in boxing by a good trainer. They can do a good job on you psychologically as well as technically. I had a taste of it on a couple of occasions. Why do you consider boxing limited as a self defense discipline?

Boxing hand techinques are superb, but they don´t have a chance against a M.A. black belt
-
Interesting fight. I think though that someone more agile than butterbean may have penetrated the other guy with hand work only.
-
yeah probably, i have a hard time imagining the outcome of a fight between Mike tyson and Andy hug for instance.

Savón and Stevenson were probably the best amateur boxers of all times

http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=R3JRgun7wG8 Tua is known for having one of the deadliest hooks on sport. He was no match for Savón...!!!
http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=sOB7_BFqUeU Stevensosn is probably the best heavyweigth amateur boxer of all times. The resemblance of Alí, both in looks and fighting style is remarkable!!

Stevenson even looked like Ali. I wonder what kind of pro he would've made.

Yup, he had everything to succeed, heart and skill. He was involved in a man slaugther incident though. Maybe is an urban legend but it´s been said that he slained a man with his bare fists in a brawl!!

Something interesting is individual style. I believe Mr Hearns would had still been the most awesome middleweight of all times in spite of being born either in Detroit, Mexico or la Havana ...
