Is anyone else planning on going out this week in the indian rocks/clearwater area? Ill pay for gas or whatever you want me to, I've just got the itch to go spearfishing in florida for once. Call me at 919 741 3235 if ya want to

I just got a brand new OMER cayman e.f. 85, and its looks cool as hell. Havent had a chance to get it wet yeat, but when i do ill let you know. I put a reel on it and all i need now is water for it to go in. Its an enclosed track gun (my first) and i got it for a steal. The people selling them got them in 2 days before i bought it, and they had their OMER prices all wrong:laughing3: Soooo i couldnt let this beautiful moment pass up and i got it!

Is their anyone in the Clearwater area that does a spearfishing charter for freedivers? I called a hand full of people today (Tanks a lot, Mac's, Down under dive services, Bottom Scratches, Dive Clearwater and sunshine scuba) and they either didn't give me a straight answer, or said flat out no because i have to know them (be a long time member) to spearfish with them. I'm heading down this Friday the 17th and leaving the 25th. Any ideas or recommendations? I would also like something that wont break the bank to.

    Thanks

    Nick

Has anyone used, or tried using the Henderson Thermo-prene wetsuit while Freediving/Spearfishing? We carry them at the shop for scuba i was just interested to see if anyone has tried using them for a different type of diving. I know that they make a 2 piece beaver tail suit in camo with a hood attached, as well as a full jumpsuit (this years new model) but i was just curious for any feedback. I already tried looking through the wetsuit topics with little to no luck on any users of this suit.

    Thanks!

Were a supplier of mares at our local shop. Though i have never bought any freediving or spearfishing gear from them before, i thought why not, and gave it a try. I got myself a pair of Sporasub camo gloves that turned out to be straight crap. The inner layer of neoprene wasn't stitched (like a good quality glove should be), but rather glued. The glue came undone in 2 dives, and has since started to come apart from the inside. Now gannet, i have since used neoprene cement, and fixed the problem, but the problem should have never have happened in the first place. Now I'm not trying to offend any hardcore fan of Sporasub, I'm just giving my feedback. Later ill post some photos of the damage when it first happened, but here are what the gloves look like.

So for the time i've been in the water, i along with others have named the long snout, finger licking fish a Hogfish. Today i got in a discussion with a friend who said it was called a Hog Snapper. I looked in books with no luck to neither of the names. I even looked in the NC fishing regulations which even puts it as a different species, and calls it Hogfish. Any info?

:) No, you probably wouldn't. But if one fell out at depth it would. They are designed to be held in by pressure at depth, but if you have a fish bump you in the head, move your hand on it, or even a possible strong current and a wrong movement, then ur f**ked. I'm not an expert on that brand, but most that I've seen are straight BS. Look i agree with yall, its a hell of a idea:cool2:. Shit i wish i came up with half this crap and i would be loaded:thumbsup2:. But, I didn't. Now I don't know about DAN recommending them, or even suggesting them. DAN will RARELY recommend products for divers because of the fact that they themselves are not doctors. 9/10 times when people call DAN they say go to the doctors and get his advice, because they would be liable from a legal standpoint to get their asses sewed if something happened to that person from their advice. But look at this from another point of view. Your spending 12 bucks to cheat the laws of nature. Not only that but your ears. Nature can be fooled for only so long. If you are having problems, take it slow on the way down. If you get a block, go up a few feet and try to equalize. It helps. And as far as dairy, yes dairy DOES contribute to congestion. I don't care what people say, dairy does affect a person one way or another when diving regardless. Dairy will produce mucus which in short clogs up the nasal passages within the skull. I don't want to have a Anatomy an Physiology lesson, so we'll just leave it at that :). But for some people, having dairy has little to no effect to the person. For most it is a contributor to sinus blocks or equalizing in general.

Look in not trying to chop heads off here, I'm just telling yall the knowledge that I've gained, and hopefully this helps you make an educated decisions in the matter. that's all :toast::):toast:

DONT! I work at a scuba shop. We have had people try stuff like this and screw up their ears in a heartbeat, due to the pressure. You obtain 1 ata of pressure for every 33 feet. At 99 feet you have 4x the pressure you did when you put them (the ear plugs) in at the surface. If one fell out at depth, not only would it cause a ear drum to rupture, but it will also cause some loss of hearing. True its a nice idea, but the risk isn't worth it! Trust me. I may not know much about freediving, but i do know scuba, and this is a baddddd idea. I have problems diving cus ive had tubes in my ears twice, so if i go to fast down, i cant equalize, so I have to take my time. This is just going around the problem. IF your body doesn't want to dive, don't do it. I also know that getting off dairy products about a week or more before a dive helps clean up you system before diving. Equalizing about 200 times a day, 3 days in advance helps to. This is what we tell our students before they take open water. Just my 2 cents.

Yea, they were brought over here to be eaten, so they keep the fish alive to keep the meat fresh. Apparently, its a ritual for the people who eat them, to release the fish, instead of taking a life and not eating the meat. So the man released the fish in a local pond, (males and females) and the fish spawned, then sprouted up and the species exploded. It got so bad that the state poisoned the water when they found the pond where they were at, to wipe them out. It didn't kill the species as they can be left out of water and move from one water source to another. So it went to a river, and from their, they have go out of control. This is due to the fact that they have no natural predator, and they are like the lion fish, the dominate species.

This guy made a home made speargun. He uses anything he can find and makes the best of it. A good day of diving is when he sees his feet :D. The fish is called a Snakehead, and are VERY dangerous despite their size. They offten attack without cause and are very protective of their nest. I give cudos to this man, cus their aint no way in hell i would be doing that!

ok, sooo yea, sdeisen, you were right. I'm not one step closer than i was 3 days ago.... Ughhh. But i do have some new ideas. Ok lets take a look at everything and see if im missing ANYTHING. Custom speargun would ne awesome, but i learned how to make knifes from a master, and im still learning. Know any builders in North Carolina? If that's a no, then the best way to learn is the hard way. If i wanted a gun i got suggestions from everything. Rob Allen, seasniper, deathstick, Aimrites, Big Daddy, Koah, and Phil(freediving form). Not to mention my Riffe and Wong... Rob Allen, i don't think im into the whole railgun thing. Sorry... Aimrites is a no probably, along with Koah. Seasniper, Deathstick and Big Daddy i like the look. But looks are the last thing i need to be considering. Does anyone have one? How do they shoot? Warranty? Was it made with quality in mind or quantity? I'm trying to keep my mind open to everything, as yall know more than me. The problem I just ran into, everyone i know owns a riffe , A.B biller or a JBL :/

I have often though about makeing my own gun, but i dont know if i have the right equipment... I have some basic stuff, alot if it was made for knife makeing actually, but i dont know if any could be transfered to makeing a gun. But what the hell, i would be willing to try it out.

Really? Im just nervous buying somthing that the person before me hasent payed any respect to. I baby my guns... More than my dog really haha. And i know NOTHING about railguns.Besides, i love wood guns, and correct me if im wrong but i belive all rainguns are metal. Or Not?

I feel as though i've seen plenty of footage of large fish being taken with euros.
i wouldnt get a mid handle without using one first, i dont like it.

My first gun was a mid handle, and i LOVE them. I guess its what i was brought up on and got comfie with it as well. For me it was easier to follow fish with the mid, allot easier, and i put my hand on the butt of the stock so it takes recoil away.

Either way, my JBl isn't making my shots. Imma buy a gun before the session is up and running again, and the sooner i get it, and use it in the pool, and get use to it, the better ill be off. I live in NC if that helps, so reefs, wrecks, and blue water. I'm also looking at a min of 65-70feet as well. Just food for thought....

I shoot black sea bass, grouper, cobia, triggers, snapper, Aj's Sheepshead, Flounder, Dolphin. Those are just off the top of my head. I have been shooting Aj's for a while, and now i want bigger, blue water fish, like barracuda, African Pompano, and maybe sometime in the next half year or so, try Wahoo and tuna. So i need a gun that i can pack the punch, but can also take every day fish as well...
