I don't have a overall pic of the gun, but I have this clip of it - at 7:25
This video was shot by a couple of journalists, and the guy explaining is the owner of the gun Søren - a danish gun collector and spearo.

The handle is a sort of sliding tenon, a center part of the grip with two grip scales glued on.
This gives a huge gluing surface. It will never come off.

Ah, now I can see it in the photos and it explains what I see.

If I had to guess, their evolutionary advantage is to not taste good. They are slow swimming creatures.

On the first dive trip I had to Block Island, and one of the first in New England, one of these swam under me. Bear in mind the vis was about 15-20' and I could barely make out what was this big weird shape coming under me. I was both curious and scared, especially because I was new to dirty water diving and had the Jaws theme running in my mind. It eventually comes up to view sideways as if it wanted to check me out, too. It was the size of a dinner table! It hung out for a minute or two before gliding into the deep.

I'm coming down tomorrow night to hang out with Harry and others and going to the Expo, flying out Monday afternoon. I've been on winter spearfishing exile doing some home remodeling. Just checking who will be around. I've been informed that it's windy, so I'm not planning on diving.

    Peace out,
    Jim

Phil, I just realized that I have almost the same backpack and never used those straps like that. I'm now stoked! I just packed my sportube 3 and things all fit. The only benefit with the sport tube 2 is that it stretches to 83 inches. The 3 can only handle 72 inches, coincidentally the same length of my longest shaft. If you have long guns, greater than 63" or a (160cm LOA) railgun, the shaft will barely fit the 3.

I'm looking right at my sport tube 3, which I'm packing for a flight to Guam tomorrow. I also have a sport tube 2, which is my normal travel container. My wife got me the 3, opened it this morning. The 3 doesn't stretch as long, but is more cavernous.

PVC tube is viable, but eats up the weight limit real fast. The sport tube is one of my best purchases for diving.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread, but I decided to start shaping a handle for a teak 110 I'm building. It's still in progress, but I like how it's coming out. It wasn't as hard as I thought, I have about 2 hours into it mostly using a dremel and sandpaper.

I'll have a full post on the gun in a couple weeks. It's just a blank right now.

There's a standard testing method, but it involves a saltwater sprayer and an enclosure. The ASTM standard is by purchase only, but here is the gist: Salt spray test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I suspect you aren't interested in going this serious, but the idea is simple; spray the product with seawater often. Being immersed isn't nearly as bad as that.

I quickly scanned through Don Paul's document, specifically looking for chemical methods (pg 8) and there is a quick test (72 hours), it also alludes to using HCl. You'll have to dig into it further, though.

If your wondering about the comment boxes, i was struggling with a website to host the images from my iphone, so I just used FB and screen shot them.

I use the app "picup" and it uploads directly to imgur.com. It's for iOS though.

I almost forgot, nice work! I do recommend the rubber hogue grip, it's cheaper from amazon than from Mako.

I like the Penetrating Epoxy Finish, but I'm interested in doing some designs and mastering the coating process. I already have Phil's Epoxy on hand as well as lot of Bristol Finish Polyurethane (Steve Veros recommendation), so this would augment that.

I may not end up buying it and just go with the Penetrating Epoxy/Xylene finish which would only cost a little bit more.

I'll take anything to make the epoxy/polyurethane finishes come out better. Is there a specific technique? I imagine I'm just trying to spread the coating as evenly as I can side to side.

An electric grill rotisserie kit is on sale at Lowes for $17. I was thinking of buying it to use it to apply epoxy on spearguns. I remember Dan and Don mentioning it a long way back to get an even coat. I've seen some other builds where people have used it instead of just hanging. Should I try it or am I delusional?

I was thinking of an overlapping neoprene pouch or zipper. On the side or at the stomach area would probably work. I hadn't really spent too much time thinking about it. A small knife pouch might be good for a secondary knife on the left breast. Pouches on the back could act as a weight vest. I'm getting ahead of myself, this thing would look like a fishing vest by the time you put all the ideas in.

Dan, I've loved the vest idea for a long time. It adds a little more warmth when you need it. It doesn't take up much space in the dive bag and you can wear with with your wetsuit if you're just a little bit too cold. You could even mount a knife in the chest area if you want it off your belt.

Maybe a small streamlined pouch wouldn't be bad, keep a flashlight or flashers or loose change.
