I still remember what seems like ages ago, my first and only JBL magnum-something, surprised and disappointed when I found out it would sink.. Probably my first ever speargun mod, removing the handle and muzzle and stuffing the pipe with Styrofoam as deep as it would go. Then after realizing it still wouldn't float, going home and teasing a somewhat inflated condom into the handle. Making a trip to the moonlit beach to test one final time. Yes that last bit did make the JBL float. But in those days I didn't foresee water pressure compressing my improvised "bladder". It didn't matter much anyways as I wasn't diving deeper than 15'. Look at me now, still stuffing pipes to make spearguns float. At least they're carbon pipes :)

LMAO! I gave up on the explorer i had after one dive. neat idea with the condom:laughing3:

Thats where me and nate always dive too. we usually yak it but i have beachdive floats n what not. shoot me a text so i have your number.
also, got a ride on a boat with a driver if you want to do that too.

    Hey all,

going to be done for the semester from december 12th to january 14th ( long break i know) and i decided to stay in town for the holidays. i run my own business so i have a very open schedule and will always be available if anyone needs a buddy in broward/miami area. I have a yak, comfortable to about 30 feet. if anyone needs a boat buddy im a competent driver and ill help out with my share of fuel/ice/cleaning... or if you keep your boat in the water ill scrape your bottom free of barnacles for free. PM me or post up in here. would love to meet a few new dive buddies.

If anyone followed this thread over on SB -

Broken Mako Predator Pro Gen 1 Handle - Spearboard bubble blowers drama forum

I had the same thing happen to my 1st gen mako predator pro 110 when i was out with nate over the holiday weekend. I really beat my gear up bad( just ask nate) but i was a little frustrated. I ended up getting the gun replaced, but me and nate cut down the barrel of the broken gun into a 90 cm gun and i happened to put the info up on how i did it on that particular thread. This showed up in my inbox, out of a bit of respect i removed names and personal info as im not trying to incite drama, just voicing my frustrations

I own alot of mako stuff, it works for me aside from that gun breaking. i just found it stupid that i couldnt share a DIY of turning a broken gun into a working one.

im the last person to start any trouble or drama. I dont want any part of it, i just like to dive and kill fish and talk to people who share my same interest. just putting that out there.

If anyones watching the cali section and that awful thread on JBL, along with numerous others.... Im really starting to like it less n less over there. Im more of a lurker here but i find myself wanting to spend more time reading here and not reading through stupid arguments and wastes of space rather then good info. I know yall dont coin well much to SCUBA shooting... Ill zip my lip about it much as possible n post more freedive reports when me n nate get out together.

North miami at barry University. As of right now I removed the reel for use on my bigger Mako railgun, the rest of this is still together but I may be removing the handle altogether and replacing it with something different.

Up for sale is my road bike dont have the money to fix it or space to keep it so its up for grabs. Bought it new awhile ago and couldnt tell you the measurements, I stand 5'9'' and it rides well for me so its probably a 26 inch bike. 14 speed.

Sat outside for a bit til someone tried to cut the lock and steal it so theres a bit of surface rust on the chain that would come off with WD40. Back tire got blown out and I never got around to fixing it, rim is fine and will take a new tube/tire. Ill include a U lock with 2 keys. Bike rides well but I dont need it or have space for it. All gears shift on it and brakes are good to go.

New I paid over 200 for it, Ill take 75 in the condition its in now since it needs a fixup. Local pickup in miami.

Something wrong with the sear or trigger mech now, wont engage the shaft anymore. I want this gun GONE. If you can fix it youll have a workhorse and a nice gun with reel.

RA closed muzzle, mako twin 16 bands, Riffe Euro shaft. Gun is nonfunctioning and sold AS IS.

50 bucks cash. Picked up in miami only.

Alex Ive used those lobster floats before for commercial fishing applications.... If you run a floatline to your gun and a 2nd floatline or bungee(6-10 feetlong) between the 1st and 2nd float you should be just fine for the size of fish your shooting in that area. I used RA hard floats when I dove in cozumel and a big cuda barely pulled it down.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I love the net and tickle stick combo, it's pretty much 100% success rate. I grab them too, but not always as successful.
Dusky, I believe I bought that net at basspro for something like $5. It's nothing special, I just try to get smaller profile nets so I can fit them under ledges and in holes. I took the normal bungy off the handle, drilled a hole and put a mono loop so I can attach it to my weight belt when I'm without the kayak. I've had it for 3 yrs or so, every now and then I replace the net part when i get too many holes to repair.

I'll take a moment to commemorate the tickle stick in that vid. I've used it for several years, and it has more good juju on it than Michael Jordan's lucky shorts. Unfortunately, as of 2 weeks ago, it's on the bottom somewhere off Fort Lauderdale. Here's to you :toast:

Heeheee I got me a new tickle stick with that angle on it just like the one you lost... :laughing3:

Nate started teaching me this technique when we were diving together the past few weekends. Where I come from in NJ we do all our lobstering on deep wrecks on SCUBA and have to grab the lobsters by hand only but they are much slower. Ive wrestled a few bugs out of holes down here with my hands but they are extremely quick to flip out and squirm deeper into a hole. Ive noticed the bigger they are, the more sensitive they are to your approach especially if you try and just grab them full on. Ive used tickle sticks and also taken the shaft out of the gun and used the open flopper to bump them forward out of the holes. The net and tickle stick coordination definitely takes practice, Ill be the first to admit its a little tricky to coordinate both especially freediving. Keeps the bugs in better shape too, I find that if they get all smashed up and lose legs and antennae they were next to dead by the time I got home with them compared to the ones with all legs and antennae intact which were lively and flipflappin all over the place.

Dusky, I dont know what net nate has but its nice and small and doesnt drag in the water one bit, kid swims like a damn dolphin when we shoredive and I can barely keep up with his vapor trail

Will never buy anything diving related made from titanium or that has titanium in it.... Stainless steel all the way! May be a durable metal but too expensive, all a marketing gimmick by companies in my eyes.

Thanks to facebook I connected with my buddy who goes to another school down the street from mine and used to work the netters with me in Barnegat light. He invited me out on his boat today, the cold front that came through finally passed so we had high hopes of getting out and getting on some fish and lobster after the blow.

We broke haulover inlet at 10AM to a nice rolling swell and winds out of the east. Had a slow run to our first drop in 55-70 feet of water. Three of us in the water, viz was mucky and 15-20 due to the swells and wind from the past few days. I didnt shoot anything the first drop and spent the time hunting bugs, only found one but couldnt get him out of the hole he was in. Shame, it was a quality 2-3 lb bug.

2nd drop was insane, hit the bottom on a ledge and was greeted by a wall of yellow jacks. Picked one out and fed him steel. Buddies chased em down but didnt shoot any. We got seperated due to viz so I worked over the area and came up with 2 FAT lionfish and a decent hog. My buddy pulled his PB hogfish and another one to follow it up. I took great pleasure in killing these big lionfish as they were everywhere and the only good ones are dead ones.

Awesome dinner, lionfish shashimi, leftover grilled Wahoo loins, hogfish, and some mahi with beans and corn washed down with some good PBRs.The yellow jack was saved, the fruit vendor at my school market on tuesdays is an older Cuban gentleman who cant dive anymore due to health issues, so I bring him fish every week in exchange for fresh fruit. He always shares his stories of his spearfishing days with me when I stop by, very nice guy to talk to.

Looking to make this nice and simple. I have one 6lb uncoated weight I want to trade for 3 uncoated 2lb weights. can anyone help me out?

Andrewk--congratulations brother. Nice pictures too :thumbsup2:

Me and and nate had an equal haul on the fish and bugs, tag teamed one outta some structure we found... THAT was hilarious.

Oh, I cant forget the bug that nate tried to tickle out that swam smack into his facemask, jumped off his head and disappeared. I almost choked on my snorkel.:laughing3:

Dove with nate again today. Hit the beach early, got rained on out in the water, did pretty good on fish and OK on bugs. Tally was 5 triggers, one hogfish, 2 muttons, 4 bugs. Nate got a small porgy and a small yellow jack. viz was hazy, 20-30 ft from the beach out to 2nd reef. lots of triggerfish moved in shallow today but only found 5 keepers out of all the ones we saw. I shot another hogfiah but it tore off and disappeared into a cave in the reef.
