So me and nate discussed this last night and I thought it would be quite the interesting read on here.

Im sure everyone has their favorite piece of dive gear. I am definitely a compulsive hoarder, gear especially. But within the last year, I have been lusting for brass clips for securing gear. so shiny... so useful.... My precious...

i have them on my kayak, guns, scrapers for work, weight belts, lights, hand reels, small marker sausages, my kayak anchor, stringers.... and I still dont have enough. all sizes big and small. I warned nate to keep his hidden from me. At the dania marine flea market, I dug through dirty bins of useless junk... to find brass clips. stainless ones are no fun. They dont look cool.

I fancy dive knives too. and tuna clips. I have quite a few of them.

Now that I look like i belong on a hoarders episode, time to fess up :thumbsup2:

well that gives me hope for saturday!

with that current Im guesstimating the blue will push in. This was up away from port everglades, the mooring balls near sunrise beach to be exact. not too much of a spot burn persay. everyone needs clear water in their life :thumbsup2:

Had to do some stupid dives for school today... on a good note 70 FSW off lauderdale was top to bottom CRYSTAL clear blue water... inshore in 30 feet was green, but very diveable. southbound current, mild.

Thats a monster mahi. I dont doubt the reported weight but its always tough to really gauge the size of them weightwise. I have a picture of me with a 30 pounder i shot in mexico and it doesnt look anything close to 30.

The next speargun design that I can't stand is a roller. It's the latest fad and all the manufacturers are jumping on it. The hype is just awesome. I sourced a very well made roller muzzle a year ago, it matches perfectly with the Speardiver carbon tubes. I built a nice carbon roller gun to see if it's something I want to produce. Compared to a conventional speargun muzzle design the roller is a ridiculous concept. Takes too long to load, forget about getting a second shot on that school of fish. I hated the long drawn out spear release. Hated the bulky profile.

Yes rollers are pretty and well thought out guns, but they're just not practical for a bottom scratcher like me. Just going ahead and saying it because no one else seems to. It's amazing we've been able to get fish at all before the advent this roller revolution.. If I seem to come across a little strong about this, it's because I'm tired of hearing about roller this and roller that. Don't believe me? Spend the cash on that new toy. IMO there is not a circumstance where a roller is the number one choice. This thing about regulations somewhere allowing only one band on a speargun is just a fantasy.

amen to that. wont ever catch me using one of them. However, I wont fault anyone who builds whatever they want, or what works for them, or for using what works for them.

some of the way things are done with spearfishing remind me of when i was into airsoft awhile ago... some guys i knew in that sport if you want to call it that would go so far as to buy parts made for real guns to make their toy guns look as authentic as possible. in short... some just have to go above and beyond.

I have the fillets ready to be cooked tomorrow so I'll let you know. My first time seeing them and trying them...

Dude, bleed and gut them and eat the same day and dont freeze. Theyre oily bloody and mushy. Ive eaten a few in my time since we used to catch them up in NJ like crazy. Watch their teeth too, I watched one guy lose the tip of his finger to one on a commercial boat i used to work on. Theyd probably be great for fishdip since they have such a strong flavor.

Heres some biguns from up north, rod n reel though -

I prefer 9/32 for all around shafts but if you know the limitations the 5/16 will work just fine for grouper and lobster.

I have one 9/32 shaft as well that came in the bundle. May pick up 2 more of them before I cross over so i have them. I plan on taking one of each shaft out next time i yak dive and target practicing on some hogs or grunts to see whats going to work best. I have a feeling the 5/16th is going to be the go-to shaft for rocked up fish.

Got a gift a month ago of 4 sling shafts that Im hopefully going to use in bahamas again this summer. anyone used a 5/16th shaft for slingin before? 3 of them are this diameter, are they going to hit harder? Plan on using them for lobster or grouper or other fish in holes since they wont pretzel but dont want to try them out on muttons or hogs on open bottom to find out they wont reach out far enough.

That gun really is a beauty, I wish I had shot it that day we took it out on the reef.

shoots smooth as silk. I pulled the trigger once on sunday and nailed a nice rainbow runner with it.

Im not a fan of midhandles when it comes to gun designs. Also dont like euros with the single band and the finger chopper wishbone. had an omer 100cm that felt like it was going to blow up in my face whenever i pulled the trigger on it. Im also not a fan of any shaft with notches, just personal preference. had alot of guns with them on it and didnt like loading them . I like the ease of yanking back to a tab that you can catch it on easily.
