Nice fish and pictures guys. ive had one manta encounter so far in my time in florida and it was in Jensen beach... big one in 10 feet of water that scared the crap out of me, I think i scared the crap out of him too the way he booked it and took off!

    Tease. Whajaget???

got a bunch of riffe amber pretied bands for a dollar a piece(all 3/4 in -20mm bands, stuck one right on my 120 soon as I got home and now I have backups) , RA 3/4in band with steel cable wishbone for a 140cm gun, good deal but i dont have a 140 to put it on... tools and scrub pads for work at crazy good prices, picked up a Bang stick and a Cressi 85cm SL older pneumatic that needs some work and a new shaft for 20 bucks together.. some more SCUBA bits and pieces that I have to go through and see if theyll work, Im putting that 50 ft brownies hose back together and getting it ready to be used so i can sell it. also got some crimp sleeves and other little odds and ends.

Did you pay to get in?

Good reminder of this show. For anyone in the area this is the best flea market ever. I go every year and almost always score killer deals on fishing and boat stuff. In my experience the dive gear is a bit lacking, but the boat parts and fishing gear cant be topped. Last year I got a customer spinner rod and battle 8000 for about half what it would cost usually. 200 and 100 feet of anchor rope for half what it costs at WM. Nice 50 foot tow ropes for half price etc.

My dad actually took off of work to go thursday because the good used boat parts get snatched up quick. He found a nice polling platform for our small boat for like 60$ (it would be hundreds new)

I didnt hit the boating stuff too much as I wasnt really there for it. I did poke through some of the fishing stuff, there are definitely a few good deals to be had. I think im gonna go back tomorrow,May grab up whatever is left of speargun parts I saw, and keep an eye out for anything I missed today.Gonna try and help me n nates friend find a speargun. Most of what i saw was old stuff but there were a few pneumatics, An old school Omer Master 96 with the t20 handle. If I can wheel n deal tomorrow like I did today we should be able to find him some stuff.

Scored some good deals there today, had to really dig in the dive booths to find good stuff but i found quite a few things I needed for SCUBA diving, an RA vecta 90 cm gun for a steal of a price, new snorkel fins for my girlfriend for 15 bucks, some riffe parts for a build I plan on having done someday soon that were brand new in the bag and unopened.

If you get into the dive booths and move stuff aside and dig youll find the good deals. Most other spearguns i saw were older jbl style tube guns. One booth has an old Omer Master 96 with the t20 style handle for 140 obo. Great condition. found one snorkel that was rebranded by cressi that I originally paid 20 dollars for, got the nonbranded version for 10 there. if you want to wheel and deal its very easy, stuff that didnt have a price i was usually able to walk away with after paying 1 - 5 bucks for little bits and pieces i needed or wanted to have around as extras. Plenty of polespears, lobster snares, tickle sticks and nets, bags, and numerous odds and ends. I also touched base with a guy who deals in high end woods - teak, sapele, zebrawood, mahogany, etc. I have his card and hes located in ft lauderdale, his prices for wood seemed very reasonable.

I have met and like Daryl a lot. I have a feeling a significant amount of the hysteria over his guns comes from the fact that he is such a classy guy and he stands behind his product.

Not to derail, but mako has a questionable level of quality on some gear but they. Have a fanatical following due to the perception that they have stellar customer service. It goes a long way

I agree with you... I feel the wong following is worse by some of those who own it and it gets a little over the top... the one guy on spearbored has stuff about wong in his signature, profile picture, user title... jeezus christ. Never met daryl or talked to him, dont have an issue with him, sure hes a great guy and seems like it from his posts on the various boards. The wong army hysteria is more overwhelming then the mako following though in my eyes. I think its crazy when people recommend a wong as a first gun to some of the newcomers to the sport.

Hybrids are an eyesore to me. I cant imagine ever feeling the need to use one. The only one Ive ever seen that i liked was the one toku58 from SB built. I really fail to understand the concept of combining a railgun and wood gun... i understand the tracking is better but I just wouldnt ever be able to make it make sense to me to do that.

and as far as the wong thing goes, dont get me started on my opinion on them.

. It's also odd that a lot of the used makos for sale have rust on the triggers... does that mean theres rust in the mech too?

    .

The predator pros have plastic triggers. Iconic and oceanic pros have metal triggers.. never seen rust on them but anything metal Ive used diving eventually gets some rust on it somewhere.

Makos are still nice guns despite what you read. I have two and they work fine, and kill plenty of fish. Plenty accurate. Barring that.... Id go with Rob allens next, or salvimar. Andrew at Nautilus spearfishing carries the salvimar guns.

Funny thing happened today too, we took my younger brother to the same place on thanksgiving, nate lost a tickle stick. On our last drift today he swims up to me with a tickle stick all grown over and funky... turns out it was the same one he lost thanksgiving weekend.

Nate did all the work on most of the fish, i shot the grover YJ and trigger, and pulled the bug. Funny story on the bug... nate shot at one of the schoolmasters and it darted into a hole, i went down to try and find it and looked into the hole and saw the bugs face upside down... I said hell with it and grabbed it and yanked it out.

Girlfriend is in PR now visiting family on Culebra til saturday. I know absolutely nothing about puerto rico and diving there,Yet she has been calling me every day telling me how perfect the weather and water is and telling me i need to get down there to spearfish. yea, my girl scouts out dive spots for me... :thumbsup2:

ill be coming in may for a week or so after our college semester ends. What kind of gear should I be bringing for reef diving, what should I expect to shoot... depths I should hunt at, licenses needed, anyone want to link up etc. Sounds like ill have boat access as well. Thanks in advance, looking forward to this trip!:thumbsup2:
