I used two part marine epoxy putty and then a grit layer. One day I will find a lighter putty and redo it and then try the carbon fiber wrap, but for now its plenty strong.

So I finally buckled down and modified the handle of my Carbonia Inverted roller. Not so much to handle recoil as much as to handle the gun better in the water. It is a wide gun and current/swell can affect it. Its so much better with a firmer grip on it. If anybody is interested I can take more pics (sorry not very good about it). I am sold on this modification for any gun.

I buzz my head so anything I now get better have a hood. The add on hoods no bueano!

What did you settle on? Really long shots on skittish fish take a well designed gun. Of course budget dictates the end result.

So... I know that snorkel is +/- $60, I just bought it. Pretty stupid expensive for a snorkel. But... the conditions we dive in quite frequently out here are really really rough. I normal dive in a $15 snorkel they sell out here from walmart (pio pounders which sells some cheap spear fishing gear). Anyway, day 1- I don't know. Some times it was great, sometimes I was struggling to get it clear over and over. I don't know if my method of clearing the snorkel (as in how I exhale) should be different from how I do it with just a j-tube or not. I will try agian. I do know that anyting I can do to relax a little extra right before I dive is worth it.

To revive an old thread... I always use j type snorkels. And in the mostly rough waters I dive in here in Hawaii constantly have to clear them. I would like to find the perfect long just stiff enough J-type snorkel. However as I push my dive depths deeper, the idea that a snorkel with a purge valve makes to much noise and scares fish (the original idea why I avoided them coupled with the simplicity factor) out the window, I am trying to find the perfect deep snorkel. I got an Aqua/Gull super bullet. I am hoping it allows me more relaxation on the surface breathing up, and less time frustrated that just before a dive I had to stop my process and clear. SO far so good in just a one time swimming around but Wednesday we go to the deep and see how it works.
Keep you all posted on my thoughts.

So I have still been diving but got slowed down some for the best of all reasons. As you can see!

So I haven't been active in quite a long...long... while but thought I would revive this thread. Still living on Maui and diving.

For what it is worth I have speared in Hawaii (where I live Now) Wyoming (I used to live in Colorado) and Florida (where I have visited). What lake do you dive most in Wyoming? The only one I go into that had enough vis to use a 110-120 was Alcova (which has good vis for freshwater!!!) In Florida I dove the GUlf close in a little which had relatively low vis and a 90 was plenty, and a little on the atlantic which as these boys said a longer gun was more appropriate. In Hawaii I have a Gatku polespear, a 110 and a 130. I pretty much leave the 110 home anymore and use either the polespear or the 130 or both (leaving one attached to the float and working with the other as I move through different areas). I guess the most versatile would be a 110 just to cover multiple conditions depending on vis. But a 120 + a pole spear would be a good way to go as well. Conditions also dependant on depth you dive and wether you want to fish in areas exposed to heavy swell (where a lot of fish action is here).

How was the water?

The rate he is going he is never gonna "get old"!

Rob Allen muzzle I have wont fit. Oh well. I busted out a file and improved the line guide on the aimrite. It probably isn't worth the expense to replace.

Josh- nice catches! Thanks for all the info, I know my super venom barrel maybe overkill but it is the barrel that I hsve so I need to use it. I can't see it being less maneuverable, and it floats fine with the shaft out so it seems to fit the bill. You like the speardiver muzzle as an upgrade over the aimrite? I hsve a modified rob Allen I may try out or get another, maybe the speardiver. I just put new bands on the gun, some of dans no hole rubber. I cut them to short! I can load them fine but I feel they over power the gun and accuracy suffers! Funny
Don- thanks! Wish I did it along time ago

I need to modify it a bit for easier loading but I am not real sensitive anyway
