Those tips have George's fingerprints all over them,

    I made what he wanted, granted I made them a tad sexier that normal, but need to keep him motivated in the water. <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">

I got my 8o pound rock outside. I will do some testing next week on alternate material.

Got a big order of custom motorcycle parts again.

Thanks, It's out of Stock in 2XL for the Kids size in 7mm . Be good for scuba diving if he gets into it.

It's in stock in 5mm size.

I use a one piece 5mm and I'm good for about 90 min to 2 hours before I got to get out from cold.

My water is typically 52 - 58 F , you might be a tad colder,

How is fit on the ankles, My son has big ankles and thick thighs. You and him look to be of similar build.

Finally finish a couple parts for George. I sure made him wait a while.

I changed the contour on the point a little for more sharping area, and I modified the face of the trama Cap with a radial V-groove. figured it might help stop it from sliding a little till it get bunged up in rocks.

I started in early 50's freediving/spearfishing and still love it. Can't dive worth a sxxt anymore.

You started diving in the 1950"s or when you were 50 ?

Had a customer last summer who was 75 from San Diego Area, wanted custom tips for shooting Northern Pike with Grandsons in Montana. He will probably still be going strong when he's 90. He looked 60-ish from pictures.

Dan has some nice wetsuits in the Freedivestore on top of forum. I'm sure he would help you figure out what would work best.

If your just getting into it, you could get a cheap gun on Ebay and add bands and some care to get it going. Then again you might not want a repair project to save a few $$.

You have to decide if you want a Band gun or a pneumatic type or a Polespear.

Dan has some nice band guns to pick from in spearfishing.store too.

If you are into poles, then I can help you out or refer you to someone else.

I like the small pneumatic mares guns, I mount a light on the side and it's great for digging into holes.

All back to what you think you will be doing. Do some research on your expected dive areas and see what the boys are using and go from there.

A field trip to your area to check it out and see what others are doing might be good start. I only have dove out of Santa Barbara once, don't know the area so well. Consider you might be traveling in spear-o adventures too.

Welcome to the user friendly forum.

What are you going after, what weapons do you have? or plan to buy?

Some details and the Boys will be telling you more info than you want to know.

I'm in Northern CA, btw. I like cold, murky water with big swells. Or at least that is what I'm used to. LOL

Been to Santa Barbara, warm water and good vis was like "strange" to me.

Warm water and 100 ft vis in Mexico seemed like Mars to me. Diving without a Hood was crazy diving.

The 90 is great. My problem is most of the dives I do during the season the vis is just not good enough to wield a big gun. I do use it out on the coast now and I do like how much reach I have. Very fast and nice gun. It has been my first railgun as they are rare up here.

What range in distance do you have with the 90 ? (Point of spear tip to target )

:) hahahahahah but I bet it would still be in the 20 ft range but it would be a penetration shot through a whale!
John I am yet to see a gun manufacturer not boldface lie about shooting range but penetration range is even shorter than shooting range.

That was my thoughts as well, So much hype in advertising. It's typical of many markets other than spearfishing.

I started this in a new thread vs. the Velocity thread thinking it would be easier to find. Be interesting if OEM's read this and post what their gun capability really is. Time will tell, we all know they go thru the various forums.

I'm going to stretch out my Blue water Koah gun and measure what length came on the gun. Looks Like I got the same gun you got George. I sure like my gun, All of my other band guns are junk.

    Ok Experts,

What is the Maximum Penetration Distance from the spear tip to the fish for any Speargun?

George tells me 20 foot. Which makes sense to me. I got a lead on a 18 inch Pipe I can have for my speed test fixture that is 100 foot long.

I figured a way to haul a 40 foot section, Strapping it on a backhoe on a trailer and hanging part of it over a big Dump Truck.

If only need say a 30 foot that would be easier. 10 foot for speargun or polespear, 20 foot for the shot...

    You are probably correct.

Nate sure reminded me of ME when I was in my 20's and out of control. I took my chances as well and not just diving but free climbing cliffs and other activities... I shouldn't have been doing. You take your chances and live with it. Get married have some kids, It will slow you down, you are living for them now and not just yourself.

This is not about Nate, but about you other yahoos out of control. go for it, have fun live your life, but know when to scale it back some....

I loved the duck hunting stories, it sure brought back memories from my own exploits.

I see I was last Post on that Duck hunting link and I got a "Like" from Nate. Pretty Kool ...

The cost of microchips to do Bluetooth, processing, memory and all the rest is very inexpensive. Garmin probably buys these in bulk for even less.

All small and low power, All you need a design team like Garmin has. I bet they spent more time figuring out the cosmetics of the watch.

It actually doesn't look that spendy. I bet the market for them is higher than one would think.

IF the GPS features work underwater, that is impressive. If it works at 100 foot depth , then I will have to buy one.

Interesting spray. Wonder how long it lasts protecting that Cell phone?

Vibratory devices do suck power, For charging one could do inductive charging.

This can be seen in battery powered Toothbrushes. that have a holder for re-charge. One of EE buds used this concept on a medical device that would be installed in surgery.

I see how it could be done, but watch makers probably aren't doing it from cost of R/D based on projected sales. Maybe it is in the works already and not released.

Water pressure on a watch does add to the challenge as Wishihadgills has stated.

That will work. Would they still be strong enough around rocks if the tip was longer so the flopper was on the point and not the shaft?

Yes. the female pocket for the shaft can go down the shaft with a .001" clearance to provide more strength.

For the extreme shot, you will always have a weak spot. One might want a bent tip over a bent shaft. Just food for thought.
