I use toothpaste, smear it with my finger and rub (wash hands before) and let it dry, store it. When I want to use it I just stick it in water and the toothpaste goes away. Is she touching the inner lense with greasy fingers (makeup, natural oils we have on our bodies, suncream)? I also once in a while after rinsing, before applying the toothpaste, use dishwashing liquid to remove any stubborn oils that may have accumulated. This technique works well for me, spit never really worked for me, never tried fish slime :)

    Hi all,

I am looking to get one or two pairs of gloves with neoprene for when it is colder (1.5mm and 2.5/3mm); I currently use gardening gloves with leather palm and fingers which is great for the summer but not great when the water gets cold.

I am looking for dexterity at the fingers (especially the trigger finger) and for an extra resistant palm. I reef/rock spearfish and I often find myself using my hands to push off rocks underwater, the palms for pressure when climbing onto rocks and the fingers to grip when climbing.

I have seen both Kevlar palm/Amara fingers and Amara palm/Kevlar fingers advertised for spearfishing, anyone tried both? Which is better in what situation?

From what I understand Kevlar is more resistant but grips less and the opposite for Amara, the later being more flexible, is that correct?

If so that makes me think I need Kevlar palms and Amara fingers, but I read that it is better to have Kevlar fingers as it resits better to the friction of the line when a reel is used.

What is your opinion on the subject?

    Thanks!
    Gab

I like it conceptually, I would suggest changing two thing that would keep me from buying it and from the questions/comments of others on here I think we have the same ideas (correct me if I am wrong pls):

    • The butt looks like it can hurt, especially if the angle is wrong when you try to load it. I understand you made it like that to differentiate your design from others and to reflect your brand's logo, but I think the body of the gun is already unique and the logo would be better inscribed in the (normally shaped) butt of the gun instead.
    • The pin is a good idea, and you want it to double as a stringer, but the reality is that we don't all use a stringer, the stringer attachment on the belt is a weight retainer which can't be used and isn't needed on Marseillaise type belts which I think most spearfishermen use. I would suggest you find a way to incorporate it in the gun, such clipping it on the handle or create a spring mechanism where you drill a hole at the bottom of the handle (vertically) or even on the butt (horizontally, it must not stick out at all though) push in and it locks into place and push in again and it comes out. Like those camera memory card slots or the cordless mice have sometimes where you have a spring system and you push in and it locks and you push in again and it comes out, do you see what I mean? I would feel safer (it not falling out) with the horizontal one :-))

    This thread is heavy.

I assume its still OK to bash France?

Yes, the rest of Europe already does ;)

To the OP, I've been in Mexico several times, your roads are fine, don't worry; try driving in Italy where even ambulances are those narrow suzuki vans, lol.

As someone who travels a lot I will tell you that important thing is not how the roads are but how the people are, how the food is and how good the fishing is :). You'll be surprised how a bright fire, some good fish and a drop or two of "the local" stuff (everyone seems to have an ungle that makes good homemade drink outside the US) goes a long way :)

I had one made by Elios recently (I don't fit well in off the shelf ones either) and I am very happy with it, superbly made. I had myself measures by one of those ladies that fits suits and she made several mistakes, Elios had one look at my measurements and asked right away if I could double check several of them. I had a friend measure me using the video links they gave me and some other written tips and I had myself completely remeasured after the ones they asked about turned out to be wrong (up to +-4cm in some places). It fits me like a glove, I'm going to order a 2mm or 3mm one soon I think (it is great in deeper waters but too hot around rocky shores in the Ligurian/Mediterranean Sea which is currently 26C-27C at the surface).

    Hi all,

I just came back from a spearfishing trip in the Med around Italy. I was able to try my new Elios wetsuit for the first time, fantastic I must say. One day we decided to hunt closer to the coast along rocky cliffs, it was a beautiful day, sunny, no clouds, 32C, water 27C on the surface, great visibility... The friend I went with has a store bought 5mm SCUBA wetsuit, mine is also a 5mm, both with hoods, I'm sure you have figured out the issue I had by now... I was so hot it made me sick, I tried to take the hood off which helped some but then I felt it was too tight around my neck, I tried letting cold water in (from 10-15m) but it warmed up too fast, I eventually took the jacket off and got a nice sunburn... My friend however was fine, he just took the hood off, his non-tailor made wetsuit lets water in all the time, even though it is super tight, so it kept his body temperature down.

I have since then decided to invest in a thinner Elios wetsuit as I have a 2mm (surf) shorty but I get cold with it after an hour or two. I would use it in this type of scenario, where the surface temperature is warm, around cliffs/rocks, etc. I will get a double lined for practical reasons: the outside for protection and the inside because I have to travel by plane to spearfish so I can't go as often as you guys. This means that it will be in storage in my basement inside a closet already full of jackets most of the time, also folding non-lined wetsuits and sticking them in a suitcase is not good as they are more fragile if my suitcase gets searched they could mess it up, etc. I agree non-inner lined wetsuits are better and if I buy property one day along the ocean I will get one of those and leave it there, but currently this is not the case and I don't want to get into the lined vs non-lined discussion, I just added that info since it has heat implications. I am thinking of getting a removable hood since as I saw with my current wetsuit it feels too tight around my neck when I take the built-in hood off, this way I can use it or not. It will have high waist pants, there are no zippers anywhere. The thickness is the thing I am not sure about, in your opinion, should I get a 2mm or a 3mm? I don't really have anything to compare with, my shorty is a shorty and lets water in everywhere anyways, my GF's 2mm wetsuit is a SCUBA one (she SCUBA dives and doesn't spearfish) and she gets cold in water where I where I wear my shorty when we snorkel together (I am usually cold at the same time she is) so I can't really judge the thickness; I know that SCUBA wetsuits aren't made like spearfishing wetsuits and especially tailor-made ones. My friend was fine in his 5mm SCUBA wetsuit when I was burning up, etc. I asked Elios this question and they gave me 5 options: three 3mm double lined, one 2mm double lined and one 2mm open-cell inside w/ outside lining. From this I assume they think a 3mm is better but I am not sure as it could just mean that this is all they have left (since they didn't offer the the same neoprene as my current wetsuit in 3mm, which exists on their website anyways) or maybe it is just that they didn't understand my question :-).

    Thanks for the input,
    Gabriel

    Hi,

do any of you wash your wetsuit before you put it away for a long time (winter)? I just read here (French) that it is good to do this at the end of the season to remove all the salt and that it makes the wetsuit last longer :

    A la chasse sous-marine

It says to do the following:

    1) Choose a short & delicate program (wool, silk, etc)
    2) Make sure the temperature is no higher than 30°C for this program
    3) Put half a regular dose of detergent, the kind for delicate things like wool
    4) Deactivate the spinning cycle of the program
    5) Once done, dry on a hanger inside and out for several hours on each side. Do not use heat to dry it!
    6) Hang in a dry cool place with little heat and humidity variations, do not fold.

Do any of you do this? Is it really safe? What about for tailor made wetsuits?

    Thanks,
    Gabriel
