    Hi all,

I have been reading up on suits since I am wanting to buy a new one. Up until now I have used a shorty surfer wetsuit but it is not adequate. I tend to get cold even in 24 degree water as it is warm only until about half a meter (Mediterranean sea). I usually try to avoid summer vacation season so I go before or after, Cyprus in Sept. was too cold after an hour, Tarragona Spain early April was too cold deeper than 30 cm. The Canary Islands in January was just horribly cold.

I was thinking of getting a 5mm suit, mine is 3mm I think. I also read up on hoods and can't make up my mind. I am just afraid I will overheat if the water is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. Also, if the sea is rough and the visibility not good I get seasick if I get too warm, I just let in some cold water into my current suit, which is harder to do with a hood.

I guess if the water is too warm I can always use my shorty, I'd rather not have to pack it since it does have a certain weight.

I don't do blue water fishing, I mostly fish in reefs/rocks

    Thanks,
    Gabriel

Hi all, since everyone raves about Elios wetsuits I decided to have a look with the intention of ordering one. I went to their website and I must admit I am a bit stumped... I was expecting to see what suites they had, the options, price estimate, etc but it's not really like that. You can see the suits but there isn't much info so it makes it hard to compare. I have read on forums about different internal coatings but couldn't find anything about those, their hydro-camo is advertised on the main page but that is the only place it is referenced, etc.

Can someone please enlighten me on how to see the options available, choose, order, etc?

    Thanks,
    Gabriel

    Hi all,

Has anyone tried Dazzle camouflage on suits? It works on the principal of making it difficult to estimate size, speed, heading and range, as opposed to normal camo which uses concealment.

If someone has tried this please give us a review. What are your thoughts?

    Hi all,

I am looking at buying some spare parts for my JBL speargun, I was looking at some spearheads to replace some old ones and I on top of my rock point (#843 - Rotating Rock Point) I was thinking of getting one of these:

    * 1. *#831 - Rotating Tri-Cut
    * 2. *#827 - Rotating Arrowhead

I can't really make up my mind, does anyone have any experience with these? From what I see one is machine sharpened and the other isn't? The one that isn't it says it has more cutting surface however. What do you guys think?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,

I am looking into a new mask, mine is gradually breaking up after 15 years of use. Has anyone tried the Mares i3 or Mares Essence Liquidskin Spearfishing Masks? I was wondering what your views/reviews on those may be? I like the i3's side view, I have that on my current mask, but the shape of the Essence Liquidskin Spearfishing mask makes me wonder if it doesn't also have good peripheral vision?

    Thanks,
    Gabriel

    Hi all,

any good recommendations for a hard travel case that is lockable (either with a internal lock or a padlock)? I was looking at the Mares Pure Instinct Attack Speargun bag, it says I can add a rigid tube inside for better protection. What are your thoughts/recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

Hello, I have a JBL Specialty Series Speargun (Travel Magnum Combo, JBL Spearguns). The (partial) specs from the website are:

    Overall Length (Short/Long setup): 32"/ 55" (81cm/140cm)
    Reach: 12/25 ft. (3.6m/7.6m)

The length given above is the whole gun's length without the spear, the barrel/tube length is 43cm/102cm.

I also have 2 other guns (a short and a long one) but one I don't use them often, I usually let my friends use them. I am thinking of purchasing a Beuchat Marlin Revolution and I'm not sure if I should get the 105cm or the 120cm version. I'm not looking for a kelp hunting gun as I will probably use the JBL in "short" setup (so the Beuchat 85cm is probably not worth looking at IMO). I'd like to outfit the Beuchat with a reel (the JBL can't be outfit with one) when I am going in the deep sea and take it off when closer to shore (although I may just end up using the JBL in "long" setup when closer to shore). I won't be going after huge fish but rather small/medium tuna, sea bass (medium to big), normal sized barracudas, etc. I'll be hunting in Spain (Mediterranean and Atlantic (Canary Islands)), Italy, France, Greece, Turkey and the Dominican Republic.

I found that the Revolution's length is just the barrel's length, so it is comparable to the JBL in that respect.

The JBL boasts almost 8 meters in range and the Revolution "at least 5m", but it (the Revolution) also states it performs like a 120cm gun. That means that either JBL inflates their figures or measure it differently, JBL's gun is very powerful for it's length, or the normal 120cm spearguns the Revolution is compared to are not that powerful.

I still don't know if I should get the revolution in 105cm or 120cm though. Maybe 105 is sufficient for my current use, any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Gabriel

    Hello!

I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm 32 and have been spearfishing in the USA, Spain, Italy and France.

I have 3 spearguns, a JBL Magnum Travel Combo, which is the one I use the most now, a 105 cm ( think) cressi (I forgot which one) that I lend to friends/family when we go hunting and a long forgotten brand simple 75cm one (17 years old!) Which was my first gun and that I mostly lend out to family & friends.

I am Swiss so I have to travel to spearfish since we have no oceans and it's illegal in the lakes and rivers to use spears.

    Happy hunting everyone!
