    Quite, we have been on a test run in a big lake sunday, I wanted to be sure he was comfortable with it. I wanted to explain the base tips for diving and test his equipment before we go. We dove about 5-7 meters, visibility was good for the first 3meters then it degraded fast. Everything went well and he enjoyed it. He just needs new flippers and a new mask strap.

    Hi all, I usually spearfish alone (I know, bad) and I will be taking a friend along with me. He has never spearfished. We will be hunting along a rocky coast, staying close to the rocks. We were wondering how we should be positioned for safety reasons, one in front of the other with enough distance were we can see each other, same alignment but with enough distance were we can't shoot each other (but this means we may not see each other), parallel to each other where we can see each other, etc?

    I would like to be able to keep an eye on my friend so I was thinking having him in front of me as far as possible were I still see him, that way we can still both hunt along the rocks. Also sometimes in parallel so I can go deeper once he has the hang of it (we are going several days).

    We will both have buoys.

    Thanks,
    Gabriel

    So, I emailed SporaSub last night and they replied this morning asking me for my location so they could send me to the closest representative. I explained I was currently in a landlocked country so no spearfishing gear and they checked and said that this is true and that they don't usually deal with end clients directly but that since there are no representatives close to me they would mail me the replacement part.

    I am quite happy with the level of support, thank you SporaSub, you have a happy customer :)

    Thanks for the support and info Don, I'll keep you posted with the customer support experience and worst case scenario I'll try to find one, I'm travelling in Europe right now (north) so not sure they have stores like we have.

    Cheers,
    Gabriel

    If you want the float to do all of that you will need to accept some compromise on certain things. More storage is more drag. Collapsibility means less structural rigidity. Buoyancy to sit on requires a larger float.

    I would try to prioritize your goals and then evaluate the options based on what is more important to you

    I needed to get fish out of the water and be seen. My main concerns. Then minimizd drag. Lastly a place to rest. Extra gear is all in a small dry box and out of the way

    Understood, I don't need to be able to sit on it, I was just surprised it was possible :)

    Carrying a lot of accessories will get old real quick.

    I was thinking of putting a tall flag pole on it and the gear I mentioned above, then using one of those small anchors, make it a base camp type of thing. I will then fish around it, I have a smaller float with a smaller flag. I can also string up the fish on the boat float.

    I hunt around coral and rocks, at most I'd say 20m in depth, in the Mediterranean sea and Atlantic ocean. I only have to worry about sharks around the Canary, Cape Verde and Madeira islands although I have never seen any sharks close to the shore.

    I want to mostly carry some water, small amounts of food, my shoes, 1st aid, extra gun (different size), documents and phone.

    I'm looking at getting a "boat" buoy and have found it hard to get information on some of them. So far I'm looking at these:

    * Omer Clipper
    * Beuchat Guardian
    * Best Hunter Okipa 2
    * Sevylor Dive Hunter

    I haven't had time to look for information on the Beuchat and Omer yet, they are my newest finds.

    I can't find much on the Sevylor though, some people say it is no longer made, but on their webpage they still advertise it (http://www.sevylor-europe.com/p-36-divehunter-sdb120r.aspx).

    The Best Hunter is also not easy to get info on (some places say you can put 2 guns, others 4, others 6, etc) there is a general mixup between the two since they both have "Hunter" somewhere in the name :-).

    I a surprised nobody has actually been able to test all 4 and writeup a comparison article, have none of the magazines/websites thought of this?

    Has anyone here tried one or several of these?

    I am thinking of getting one because I often have to walk up to the place were I will hunt and I could put useful things on it like my spare guns, water/food, documents, phone, sandals, dive flag, stringer 1st aid kit, etc. It would also allow me to rest it needed.

    Thanks,
    Gabriel

    Don't worry about it Don, congrats btw! For me threads are also about sharing in general, so hijack away :) . It was answered, I will go for a hood and if it isn't what I expect I can cut it off.

    Thanks guys!
    Gabriel

    Sdeisen, ok, I see. You are correct, I don't dive in waters full of boats.

    My GF has 2.5 or 3mm suit (forgot which, but I think 2.5mm) that she uses for SCUBA and when she used it where I spear she was cold too (she usually dives in warm waters like in Egypt, Thailand, etc), I had expected it to be warmer than my shorty but she got colder faster. I also end up getting cold which is usually the reason I stop fishing. That is the reason that I was thinking of a 5mm.
